Job Description

The Food Service Manager at Great Plains Correctional Center oversees daily food production in a secure correctional facility, ensuring safe, efficient, and compliant meal service for the incarcerated population. The role manages large-scale kitchen operations, supervises staff and incarcerated workers, maintains strict food safety and security standards, and controls inventory and costs. The manager ensures menus meet nutritional requirements and that all food service activities follow facility, state, and federal regulations.

Responsibilities
  • Leadership – Use the coaching model to engage and develop team members, reward and recognize employees, ensure performance meets objectives and client expectations, plan and lead daily team briefings, and maintain safety and sanitation standards.
  • Client Relationship – Identify client needs and communicate operational progress.
  • Financial Performance – Maintain P&L statements, deliver client and company financial targets, adopt all processes and systems, and educate teams on key levers to improve margins.
  • Productivity – Deliver value through efficient operations, appropriate cost controls, and profit management; meet operational excellence fundamentals and ensure team training.
  • Compliance – Maintain a safe and healthy environment, follow all applicable policies, rules, and regulations, including those related to safety, health, wage, and hour.
  • Additional Responsibilities – Lead the front of the house of the dining operation, coordinate food service activities, and deliver finished products to the customer.
Qualifications
  • At least 1 year of experience.
  • At least 1 year of experience in a management role.
  • Preferred:
    Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to maintain effective client and customer rapport for mutually beneficial relationships.
  • Ability to demonstrate excellent customer service using the standard service model.
  • Ability to maintain an effective working relationship with other departments to ensure a unified food service experience.
  • Requires occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling up to 50 lb.
  • Must be able to stand for extended periods of time.
