Position Summary
Aetna's Group Medicare organization helps employers deliver high-quality, affordable healthcare coverage to retirees nationwide. As a Senior Manager of Strategic Planning, you will shape growth and competitive strategy in a dynamic, rapidly evolving market. This role supports the Group Medicare Strategy team, driving end-to-end strategic planning and aligning initiatives with business priorities.
Key Responsibilities- Collaborate with sales, underwriting, finance, and operations to align plans, manage timelines, and identify risks.
- Own the development and continuous refinement of market insights, competitor positioning, and translate dynamics into actionable strategy.
- Synthesize complex data into clear insights and recommendations for executive decision‑making.
- Lead the development of business reviews, strategic updates, and executive‑level materials.
- Ensure enterprise and partner strategies are clearly translated, shared, and executed.
- Lead the annual and multi‑year strategic planning process, establishing structures for execution and accountability.
- Maintain performance monitoring frameworks, track progress, and refine strategy accordingly.
- Advise on growth opportunities, performance improvement, and market positioning.
- Coordinate strategic forums and events, including content development, logistics, and follow‑through.
- Identify and implement process improvements to streamline workflows and maintain momentum.
- 7+ years of experience in strategy, project or program management, preferably in healthcare or insurance.
- Proven record managing large‑scale projects from inception to completion with deliverables met on schedule.
- Strong data analysis and problem‑solving skills to identify trends, assess risks, and inform decisions.
- Ability to build and sustain relationships across diverse teams and functions.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, influencing senior executives and stakeholders.
- Experience presenting to audiences at all levels and building trust and respect.
- Capacity to manage multiple priorities, operate amid ambiguity, and deliver under tight timelines.
- Self‑starter with a growth mindset, confidence to work independently and drive initiatives without detailed directions.
- Experience with competitive intelligence, market analysis, and translating insights into strategy.
- Background in Medicare strategy.
- Chief of Staff or Strategy leadership experience.
- Project management certification.
- Advanced analytical mindset connecting market dynamics to business implications.
- Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree preferred.
Typical pay range: $75,400.00 – $. The actual base salary depends on experience, education, geography, and other factors. The position is eligible for bonus, commission, short‑term incentive, and equity award programs.
