Position: Laboratory Technician – DSP 3rd Shift 10:00 PM – 6:30 AM

Position Summary

Candidate will perform all tasks regarding the Downstream Processing of active biological ingredients produced in Lincoln, Nebraska. The role requires maintaining a safe work environment, demonstrating reliability in attendance, and learning filtration, concentration, centrifugation and chromatography of bacterial antigens. The candidate must comply with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and regulatory documents, use good communication skills (verbal, non‑verbal, and written), and apply mechanical skills to maintain equipment and identify mechanical problems.

Position Responsibilities
  • Demonstrate safe work habits and maintain a safe work environment.
  • Understand and comply with safety SOPs and procedures (MSDS guidelines, Near Miss, PPE, biohazard training, monthly safety training, etc.).
  • Demonstrate reliability in attendance and punctuality.
  • Learn downstream processing techniques such as centrifugation, concentration, sterile filtration, purification through chromatography, and dispensing of bacterial antigens.
  • Comply with SOPs and associated documentation necessary to perform job functions.
  • Train in Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) and demonstrate understanding and compliance.
  • Demonstrate interpersonal and communication skills within and outside the department using verbal, written, and non‑verbal means.
  • Perform mathematical calculations and metric conversions.
  • Assist in completing documentation including process worksheets and log sheets.
  • Operate, clean, and perform minor maintenance on equipment such as fer mentors, seed isolators, centrifuges, and filtration units.
  • Read and report test results using scientific instruments.
  • Use mechanical skills to identify mechanical problems and maintain equipment.
  • Clean areas according to specific SOPs.
  • Obtain license and operate mobile powered material handling equipment (e.g., forklift, tank tugs).
  • Perform supplemental duties as assigned by supervision.
Education and Experience

Minimum high school diploma or equivalent required. Knowledge of a PC using window‑based applications. Grade level will depend on the experience and education level of the successful candidate.

Technical Skills and Competencies
  • Understanding and execution of downstream processing: centrifugation, concentration, sterile filtration, chromatography, dispensing of bacterial antigens.
  • Operate, clean, and maintain equipment such as chromatography skids, centrifuges, and filtration units.
  • Mechanical troubleshooting and equipment maintenance.
  • Reading and reporting test results with scientific instruments.
  • Reliability in attendance and punctuality.
  • Compliance with SOPs and associated documentation.
  • Documentation completion: process worksheets, timecards, log sheets.
  • GMP training and compliance.
  • Area cleaning per SOPs.
  • Safe work habits and safe environment maintenance.
  • Mathematical calculations and metric conversions.
  • Interpersonal and communication skills (verbal, written, non‑verbal).
  • Licensing and operation of mobile powered material handling equipment (e.g., forklift, tank tugs).
  • Supplemental duties as assigned by supervision.
Physical

Position Requirements

Exposure to chemicals, fumes, odors, noise, live steam, temperature fluctuations, biohazards, continuous standing, climbing stairs, and lifting up to 50 lbs. Weekend and holiday work may be required.
