Content Marketing Specialist

The Oklahoma Department of Commerce is the State economic development office. Our mission is to cultivate an environment where businesses and communities can grow and thrive. Compensation: $65,000 - $75,000. Full time. Regular. State of Oklahoma employee benefits include a comprehensive benefits package and a generous benefit allowance to offset the cost of insurance premiums for employees and their eligible dependents.

Basic Purpose

The Marketing & Communications Team provides full‑service marketing and communications solutions for internal clients and external partner organizations. The team supports in‑state programs such as the Main Street program, Oklahoma Film + Music, and local economic development partnerships, and works with the Economic Development, Growth & Expansion (EDGE) team to provide information to companies looking to expand or open new operations in Oklahoma.

  • Serve as a lead storyteller for the state, crafting compelling narratives that showcase Oklahoma’s unique competitive advantages and the diverse opportunities available to both residents and businesses.
  • Create content that helps position Oklahoma as a premier location for new jobs and investment.
  • Create strong messaging promoting Commerce's programs and efforts, and how they positively impact Oklahomans and our communities.
  • Grow audiences and increase engagement for existing audiences with high‑quality content.
Typical Functions Editorial & Content Development
  • Write and develop high‑quality content for brochures, promotional materials, and digital assets.
  • Produce monthly and quarterly newsletters for multiple audiences.
  • Uphold high standards for quality, attention to detail, and brand consistency across all deliverables.
Campaign Management & Optimization
  • Develop and manage email lead nurture campaigns from inception to execution.
  • Analyze campaign data (open rates, click rates, etc.) to identify trends and implement adjustments that improve engagement and conversion outcomes.
  • Utilize analytics tools to gain actionable insights and refine content performance.
Website & Digital Infrastructure
  • Partner with agency leadership, team, and clients to review, update, and refine website copy.
  • Implement changes to keep the site current and user‑friendly. Experience with Word Press is preferred but not required.
Collaboration & Support
  • Coordinate social media content with the internal team to align posts with broader agency objectives and active campaigns.
  • Directly collaborate with agency departments as needed to ensure communication goals are met.

Education and Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, journalism, business, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 3 years of full‑time, professional experience in content management and copywriting.
  • Internships are valued but will not be considered toward the three‑year professional experience minimum.
