Communications Coordinator
Basic Purpose
:
Responsible for researching, writing, and editing various materials for media and presenting information for a state agency. Serves as the resident authority on Digital/Social Media marketing, crafting the information strategy that tells the story of the Oklahoma National Guard’s Youth Programs.
- Establishes, develops, and maintains contacts with the Oklahoma National Guard Public Affairs Office, media, professional and civic organizations, and other special interest groups to promote agency programs.
- Prepares, edits, coordinates, and distributes news releases.
- Prepares talking points, agency newsletters, brochures, web pages, broadcast scripts, and other informational releases; coordinates major public relations or advertising campaigns for agency programs.
- Manages the agency’s social media accounts (Facebook, Linked In, Twitter, Instagram), developing regular posting schedules and driving audience engagement.
- Reviews digital media analytics to evaluate campaign performance, identify trends, and make data‑driven decisions.
- Develops special educational and promotional materials for presentation at exhibits, fairs, festivals, conferences, and schools; conducts tours of the agency.
- Represents the agency at civic and professional groups.
- Instructs, trains, and may supervise the activities of others.
- Serves as photographer for the agency.
- Serves as project leader for special public relations projects of the agency programs.
- Advanced knowledge of English usage, including grammar and composition; public relations principles and techniques; accepted media styles; media sources and capabilities; visual graphics and video techniques; agency objectives; and editing techniques and procedures.
- Ability to write and edit; gather and organize pertinent data; uphold public relations principles and codes of ethics; deliver informational presentations; establish and maintain effective working relationships; and communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, Marketing, English or related field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience in writing and editing, radio and/or television, public relations, or serving as a public information officer.
Special Requirement- Formal training/experience in photography and photo editing, or willingness to attend local, basic photography/editing training within 90 days of employment.
Valid Driver License.
Physical Requirements- Must be able to lift/carry a minimum of 10 pounds.
- Sitting at a computer for long periods.
- Standing and walking indoors and outdoors for long periods.
- Working in conditions of both high and low temperatures.
- Ability to climb stairs.
- Ability to drive or ride in a vehicle for extended distances.
- Serves a 12‑month trial period.
- Contingent on a favorable NCIC/OSBI background check.
- Contingent on passing pre‑employment drug & alcohol screening.
- Contingent on continuous federal funding.
- T1/CNACI security clearance due to work with youth (Eligibility for national security positions granted only to U.S. citizens).
- Must maintain a valid driver license.
- Willing and able to fulfill job‑related travel normally associated with this position.
- FLSA exempt status.
- Tobacco and vape‑free facility.
