Purpose and Scope
Supports FMCNA’s mission and values by functioning as part of the hemodialysis health‑care team to provide safe and effective dialysis therapy for assigned patients under the direct supervision of a registered nurse. Responsibilities also include patient care, technical operations, customer service and participation in staff and care‑planning meetings.
Duties and Responsibilities- Provide direct patient care for assigned patient(s), including administering and monitoring treatments according to current treatment plans.
- Perform all technical aspects of dialysis procedures, monitor treatment parameters, and document results on dialysis flow sheets.
- Administer intravenous medication in accordance with physician orders and state nurse‑practice laws.
- Record and report significant changes in patient condition, treatment complications, equipment problems, and other incidents to the supervisor.
- Assist in developing and implementing teaching plans to educate patients and families about end‑stage renal disease, dialysis therapy, diet, and medications.
- Respond to and resolve emergency situations, including initiating basic CPR and operating emergency equipment in accordance with procedures.
- Safely operate dialysis equipment, provide minor troubleshooting when necessary, and ensure a clean, safe, and sanitary environment.
- Ensure proper handling of blood spills in compliance with Bloodborne Pathogen Control Policies.
- Participate in staff meetings, short‑term and long‑term patient care‑plan meetings, and interprofessional coordination with physicians, dietitians, and social workers.
- Act as a resource for other staff members and attend scheduled in‑service training classes to acquire current practice knowledge.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

- Provide outstanding customer service to all external and internal customers.
- Develop and maintain effective relationships through timely communication.
- Takes initiative to respond, resolve, and follow up on customer service issues.
The role requires frequent, prolonged periods of standing, bending, and lifting. The employee may be required to lift machines and equipment weighing up to 200 lbs. and chemical water solutions up to 30 lbs. The position involves heavy patient movement, ambulation assistance, desk and computer work, and travel between facilities and community locations. The work environment is a health‑care facility with controlled temperature and moderate noise levels.
Employees may be exposed to infectious materials.
- Graduate of an accredited School of Practical Nursing (LPN, LVN) and current state licensure.
- Minimum one year of medical‑surgical nursing experience preferred (hemodialysis and ICU experience preferred).
- Successfully complete a training course in the theory and practice of hemodialysis.
- Completion of CPR certification.
- Completion of the Nurses Technical Training Program upon hire or shortly thereafter.
- Ability to provide coverage at area facilities during short‑staffing periods or as required.
- Must pass Ishihara’s color‑blindness testing as a condition of employment.
- Good verbal and written communication skills.
