The Instrument and Electrical (I&E) Technician is responsible for safely maintaining, repairing, or replacing the physical equipment in the plant efficiently and correctly. Technicians install, troubleshoot, service, and perform preventive maintenance on plant equipment. The technician repairs or replaces plant equipment as necessary to maintain continuous operation. They also install, service, test, and calibrate medium‑voltage electrical systems and various electronic equipment, following standard I&E procedures and techniques.
Responsibilities- This is a safety‑sensitive position that provides technical support to Engineering, Operations, and Maintenance for the plant’s electrical and instrumentation systems and offers design input for projects.
- Install, repair and maintain all process controls and analyze systems and electrical systems.
- Dismantle, clean, replace parts, assemble and calibrate pneumatic and electronic instruments.
- Determine causes for malfunctioning instruments and take appropriate corrective action.
- Read electrical blueprints and schematics.
- Perform preventive maintenance on equipment.
- Install, alter and repair electrical systems, including conduit installation, wire pulling, making proper connections, and correcting electrical malfunctions.
- Follow all safety rules and keep work areas clean.
- Work overtime and be on call for weekends, nights, holidays, and during plant outages.
- Associate or bachelor degree, certifications and licenses.
- Chemical or manufacturing plant technical knowledge and/or related work experience.
- Completion of a formal apprenticeship program or an equivalent combination of work experience and technical training.
- Associate degree from a technical school (desired).
- Basic skills in electrical AC/DC voltage, PLC, pneumatic control valves and systems, basic electronics, motor control systems, and process control systems.
- Experience with 480 V to 4160 V electrical systems.
- Maintain health, safety, and environmental standards as a personal performance core value.
- Basic computer knowledge.
- Basic mechanical knowledge and ability.
- Physical capability, availability, willingness, and ability to work in a team environment.
- Good interpersonal and influential skills.
- Willingness to work overtime and be on call.
- Ability to work under minimal supervision.
- Willingness to travel for training.
- Effective organizational, time‑management, and communication skills.
- Self‑motivation to advance to the highest level possible.
Understands and complies with established departmental processes and procedures designed to support internal controls efforts. Identifies and brings to the attention of department management internal controls deficiencies.
