Sanitation Carrier

Salary
: $17.06 to $18.92 Per Hour, depending on qualifications.

This is a non-exempt sanitation carrier position requiring manual labor in the collection of refuse.

Perform a variety of labor and semi-skilled work in refuse collection, disposal, and other requested tasks.

Lifts heavy cans of refuse; picks up small bundles of brush; unloads refuse at a designated landfill; may operate compaction equipment and lift equipment on rear-loading refuse truck.

Maintains equipment by checking oil, water, and tires, and makes adjustments by refilling or reporting for repair. Cleans the truck and equipment, performs minor repairs to equipment as needed, and maintains a clean interior.

Must be able to work extended hours or until the job is finished as required.

• Must be able to follow oral and written instructions and assist the crew in collecting refuse.
• Must be willing to work on different truck routes when requested by supervisor.
• Apply basic safety and job assignment principles.
• Works in environments that are subjected to inclement weather, foul odors, and extreme temperatures, both hot and cold.
• Ability to detect malfunctions of equipment, operation of packer trucks, and operation of radio and telephone equipment.
• H.S. Graduate or equivalent.
• Must be able to pass a physical, drug screen, and criminal history check.

• Must be able to lift, push, and pull up to 75 lbs. on an as-needed basis.
• Work is customarily performed outdoors, in inclement weather, extremes in temperature, and in close proximity to foul odors, rodents, dirt, traffic, chemicals, broken glass, dogs, and other hazards, and generally unpleasant conditions.
• Heavy lifting may be required frequently. A very extensive amount of walking is required, continuous stooping, bending, and frequent reaching.
