The Patient Services Representative is a key position in our imaging centers that greets patients and registers them for their procedures at the front desk. The role performs all clerical duties necessary to register and process patients so imaging studies can be performed and billed correctly.
Responsibilities- Register patients by collecting/verifying patient demographic information, insurance data and referring physician information as well as meaningful use
- Avoid errors by achieving accurate and complete data entry of each patient
- Check insurance eligibility
- Calculate deductibles and coinsurances
- Collect and post co-pays, coinsurances and balances
- Daily data entry/computer work
- Keep accurate journal sheets of all payments posted
- Schedule appointments. Explain studies, procedures and preps to patients
- Answer the telephone, fax reports, request and release images
- Contact referring physician offices as needed
- Maintain confidentiality and comply with all HIPAA and Corporate Compliance regulations
- Print and/or scan documents into patient accounts
- Keep the work area stocked, orderly and clean
- Release images to patients when necessary
- Communicate information to radiologists, technologists, patients and referring physician office
- Punctuality and regular attendance
- All other duties as assigned
- Experience in an administrative healthcare position preferred
- Good computer skills, proficient keyboarding and data entry skills
- Working knowledge of insurance and billing functions a plus
- Knowledge of medical terminology and anatomy a plus
- Excellent communication skills
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Detail oriented and ability to multitask in a busy work environment
- Knowledge of office equipment (i.e. copy machine, scanner, fax machine, multiline telephone)
- Ability to communicate verbally and in writing with patients, their family members and coworkers
The position requires sitting for 75% of the scheduled shift along with standing, walking, reaching and lifting. Use of a computer keyboard, computer mouse and telephone is required for 80-90% of the scheduled shift. The position is in an indoor office setting in close proximity to coworkers with daily interaction with patients, patients family members, coworkers and vendors.
