Overview

The Director of Construction plans and oversees the district's construction and capital improvement projects. This includes new school construction, renovations, and smaller capital projects. The Director works collaboratively with district leaders, contractors, and community partners to ensure projects are completed safely, efficiently, and in alignment with the district's long-term goals. Reports to COO.

Essential Functions
  • Supports long-range capital planning efforts to meet the district's current and future facility needs.
  • Develops and manages construction and capital project budgets in a responsible and transparent manner.
  • Oversees new school construction projects as well as renovation and improvement projects across the district.
  • Supervises and supports project managers and assigned staff to ensure projects move forward smoothly.
  • Works closely with architects, engineers, contractors, and regulatory agencies to ensure compliance with applicable codes and standards.
  • Coordinates bidding, procurement, and contract processes to promote fairness, value, and quality outcomes.
  • Reviews construction plans, specifications, and cost estimates to ensure alignment with district standards and expectations.
  • Monitors project schedules and budgets and works proactively to address challenges or adjustments as needed.
  • Helps resolve construction-related issues in a practical and solution-oriented manner.
  • Provides regular updates and reports to the COO, Superintendent, and Board of Education as requested.
  • Collaborates with district departments to ensure construction projects support instructional and operational needs.
  • Maintains organized records and documentation related to all construction activities.
  • Represents the school district in meetings with contractors, architects, and community stakeholders as needed.
  • Attends Board and other school district meetings as requested.
  • Continues professional learning to stay current with best practices in construction, school facility design, and project management.
Travel Requirements
  • Travel to school district buildings, construction sites, and professional meetings as required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Working knowledge of commercial construction practices and project management principles.
  • Understanding of construction budgeting and cost management.
  • Ability to develop and manage project budgets responsibly.
  • Ability to think strategically and plan for the district's long-term facility needs.
  • Strong problem-solving and organizational skills.
  • Ability to supervise, support, and collaborate with project managers and team members.
  • Knowledge of applicable construction codes and regulations.
  • Proficiency in basic computer programs, including Google Workspace and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and related documents.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and timelines.
  • Ability to build and maintain positive working relationships with colleagues, contractors, and community members.
Education
  • Minimum of a two-year degree from an accredited college or university in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, or a related field.
  • Bachelor's degree preferred.
Experience:
  • Experience in commercial construction project management.
  • Experience supporting new construction and capital improvement projects.
  • Supervisory experience preferred.
  • Experience working in or with educational facilities is helpful but not required.
