Industrial Automation Controls Engineer

This position is on site in Mooresville, NC just north of Charlotte, NC.

The controls engineer will be responsible for working with a projects team lead to develop PLC controls, HMI, safety controls, commissioning machines, and interfacing with vendors.

The controls engineer should have a strong background in mechanical or electrical engineering. The ideal candidate will have experience in PLC programming and HMI development and troubleshooting complex machines.

• Develop Allen Bradley PLC code from the ground up
• Develop HMI applications from the ground up
• Develop controls narratives and machine state diagrams with the projects lead
• Capable of effective communication with project leads
• Ability to size and specify motors, actuators, sensors, vision systems, and other automation peripherals.
• Work with the electrical team in panel builds if needed
• Provide field support to commission machines
• Help in efforts in regular maintenance service contracts
• Work with external suppliers.
• Assist in refined processes, procedures, and best practices with the control’s teams.
• Assisting in mechanical and electrical machine assemblies
• Up to 10-15% travel for commission projects outside of Mooresville NC area as is typical in the controls industry

• Bsc in Mechanical Engineering, ME Technology, Electrical Engineering or EE Technology is required
• Developed PLC code from the ground up.
• The ideal candidate will have experience working with a variety of automation technologies, including robotics and vision , PLCs, HMIs, safety I/O, wide variety of motors and sensors.
• Ladder, function block diagrams
• 3+ years experience developing process code.
• Experience in troubleshooting automated equipment
• Enjoys working with hands and computer work
• Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• The ideal candidate will be a self-starter and be able to work independently and as part of a team.
• Programming systems with 5+ devices
• Field start up and commissioning experience
  
  Knowledge of safety and supplementary protection
• Knowledge of variable frequency drives and motor sizing for applications

• Experience programming industrial robots such as Fanuc and ABB.
• Direct experience working with Allen Bradley and Siemens.
• Machine vision experience specifically with Cognex
• Good understanding of machine vision lighting and optical specifications
• Understanding of CE, NFPA 79, and SEMI S8 compliance
• Experience programming PLCs, HMIs, safety I/O, wide variety of motors and sensors.
• 5 years minimum experience developing process code and HMI applications
• Structured text programming including C/C++ is considered a plus but not required
• Knowledge in power distribution and electrical machine panels from VFDs, motors, safety sensors, air distribution, pneumatics and more.
