Job Description
We are seeking a motivated and ambitious Test Engineering Technician to join Penske Technology Group (PTG), a subsidiary of Team Penske. This role is ideal for a recent engineering graduate looking to gain hands‑on experience in the racing industry. PTG is a cutting‑edge R&D center equipped with advanced test equipment, including a wind tunnel and a 7‑post vehicle dynamics rig. We handle special projects for our race teams and are dedicated topushing the boundaries of technology and performance.
Responsibilities- Set up and operate test equipment, including the wind tunnel and 7-post rig.
- Conduct automotive testing in the test lab, focusing on vehicle dynamics, aerodynamics, and various R&D tests.
- Work with hydraulic systems as part of the testing processes, including the maintenance and troubleshooting of these systems to ensure optimal performance.
- Assist in maintaining and calibrating test equipment, with a strong focus on electrical and electronic systems.
- Collaborate with engineers on data acquisition, analysis, and interpretation of electrical/electronic data.
- Utilize MATLAB and Siemens NX in support of engineering tasks.
- Design, develop, and build test fixtures, including those involving electrical and electronic components.
- Write and follow test procedures, and document test reports.
- Perform instrumentation calibration and installation, particularly with electronic measurement devices.
- Interpret mechanical and electrical drawings, and perform electrical and instrumentation wiring.
- Assemble and troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and electronic components as part of the testing setup.
- Support special projects for our race teams.
- Adhere to safety protocols and ensure a safe working environment.
- Bachelor’s, Associate of Science, or Associate of Applied Science degree in Engineering Technology, Mechanical, Electrical, or a related technical field (completed or in progress).
- Some familiarity or coursework with MATLAB and Siemens NX (preferred).
- Knowledge of hydraulic, electrical, and electronic systems, with experience in data acquisition systems (preferred).
- Relevant hands‑on experience through internships, co‑op programs, or engineering projects (preferred).
- Basic knowledge and experience of machining and machine tools (preferred).
- Ability to understand procedural manuals and engineering/CAD drawings.
- Experience with computer‑controlled test equipment (preferred).
- Good verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to troubleshoot problems and prepare reports and documentation.
- Ability to solder and crimp electrical connectors, and securely route and install instrumentation wiring.
- Must be able to stoop, kneel, climb, and lift up to 50 pounds.
- Willingness to work a flexible schedule, including overtime when necessary.
