Senior Design Engineer – Tactical Armored Vehicles

Our client is looking for an experienced Senior Design Engineer to lead the design, integration, and development of advanced tactical armored vehicle platforms. This role is ideal for an engineering professional with a strong background in defense, armored vehicles, or heavy vehicle systems who thrives in a fast‑paced, mission‑critical environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the full product lifecycle from concept and design through prototype, testing, production release, and continuous improvement.
  • Develop complex 3D CAD models, assemblies, and manufacturing drawings using Solid Works.
  • Design and integrate armored structures, chassis systems, crew‑protection features, and mission equipment.
  • Apply GD&T, tolerance analysis, and design‑for‑manufacturing principles to ensure production‑ready designs.
  • Support prototype builds, testing, troubleshooting, root‑cause analysis, and engineering changes.
  • Collaborate with manufacturing, quality, supply chain, and program teams to deliver high‑quality solutions.
  • Mentor engineers and provide technical leadership during design reviews and program execution.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field (Master's preferred).
  • 10+ years of mechanical design experience within defense, armored vehicle, military mobility, or heavy vehicle industries.
  • Expert proficiency with Solid Works and complex mechanical assemblies.
  • Strong knowledge of GD&T, tolerance analysis, DFM/DFA, and engineering change control.
  • Experience with armored structures, welded assemblies, vehicle integration, and prototype development.
Preferred Experience
  • Tactical wheeled or tracked vehicles, MRAPs, armored support vehicles, or protected mobility systems.
  • Ballistic protection systems, survivability engineering, and DoD development programs.
  • PDM systems, BOM management, and configuration control processes.
