About the RoleSHD Composites is seeking a highly motivated Chemical Engineer to support the development, optimization, and manufacture of advanced composite prepreg materials and high-performance resin systems. This role partners with Manufacturing, R&D, Quality, Supply Chain, and Commercial teams to improve products, processes, quality, and manufacturing performance.
What You’ll Do- Support development and improvement of composite materials, resin systems, raw materials, formulations, and processing technologies.
- Optimize resin mixing, impregnation, coating, and prepreg manufacturing processes for quality, consistency, yield, safety, and productivity.
- Support scale-up from laboratory development through commercial production, customer qualification, and technical evaluation.
- Analyze process and material-performance data, establish process parameters, and identify opportunities for product and process improvement.
- Troubleshoot manufacturing and quality issues, lead root-cause investigations, and implement corrective and preventive actions.
- Lead or support continuous improvement, waste reduction, sustainability, capital improvement, equipment commissioning, and process validation initiatives.
- Provide technical guidance to Manufacturing and Quality and support customer-facing technical projects with Sales and Technical Services.
- Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Materials Engineering, Polymer Engineering, or a related discipline.
- 3+ years of engineering experience in manufacturing, chemical processing, materials development, or composites.
- Strong understanding of chemical-process principles with demonstrated analytical problem-solving and process-data analysis skills.
- Strong project management, organization, technical documentation, and communication skills.
- Ability to work cross-functionally in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
Composite materials, prepregs, thermoset resins, epoxy systems, polymer chemistry, material characterization, SPC, Lean/Six Sigma, aerospace quality systems, laboratory testing, or Six Sigma certification.
Work EnvironmentOffice, laboratory, and manufacturing environment; required PPE; occasional lifting up to 25 lbs.; occasional travel to customers, suppliers, or SHD facilities.
