Senior Accountant

Mooresville, North Carolina

About Earth Kind

Earth Kind is a small, diverse, and collaborative company based in Mooresville, North Carolina. We manufacture no‑kill botanical pest repellents right here in our local facility. We’re not some giant conglomerate; things are personable, and everyone knows each other.

The Opportunity

You’ll own the day‑to‑day and middle‑management accounting that keeps this company’s finances running. Our company is positioned for growth, and this role comes with an opportunity for advancement within 1 to 3 years; you’ll increasingly be involved in budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning. You’ll report to the Director of Finance and serve as a key part of a small financial team.

What

You’ll Do

About 70% of this job is highly detailed accounting routines, some of which are tedious data processing. The remaining 30% is dealing with time‑sensitive or priority‑driven responsibilities that come up without warning. You’ll need to be flexible enough to shift gears when something urgent hits and then get back to your routine work.

Core Responsibilities

  • Execute and reconcile working papers for month‑end close
  • Reconcile balance sheet accounts using Net Suite and advanced Excel
  • Manage payroll, accruals, and biweekly processing; renew and reconcile tax filings; prepare journal entries
  • Analyze budgets vs. actuals
  • Report and manage cash accurately and in a timely manner
  • Report sales tax and maintain compliance across all states
  • Analyze time and efficiency (FTE reporting)
  • Manage 401(k) plans, Section 125 plans, ERISA, and unemployment reporting

Examples of Unplanned Urgent Situations

  • Troubleshoot an issue where sales tax may be miscalculated
  • Reconcile a customer’s payment order issue
  • Process emergency paperwork for a worker’s comp claim
  • Facilitate required steps for an employee termination, transfer hire, or leave of absence

A candid note: This role requires constant reprioritization. Routine work will be interrupted by urgent requests, and the ability to shift gears without losing accuracy is essential. The job also demands comfort with large and complex spreadsheets on a daily basis.

What You’ll Bring

Must‑Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field
  • Solid knowledge of GAAP, sales tax, ERISA, and applicable compliance requirements
  • Advanced Excel (e.g., VLOOKUP, XLOOKUP, Pivot Tables, Macros)
  • Detail orientation, critical thinking, and analytical reasoning
  • Comfort with repetitive tasks and resourcefulness in problem‑solving
  • Reliable time management and the ability to reprioritize on the fly

Nice‑to‑Haves

  • CPA (strongly preferred). Actively pursuing a CPA is also great.
  • Net Suite experience (strongly preferred)
  • Paycor experience
  • Project management, budgeting, forecasting, or financial planning experience
  • Experience improving financial processes or workflows

If you’re missing something from this list but feel you’d be an excellent fit for this position, we implore you to still apply.

What We Offer
  • 100% company‑paid medical, short‑term disability, and life insurance for employees
  • Dental, vision, long‑term disability, additional life insurance, and critical illness coverage also offered (employee‑paid)
  • 401(k) with dollar‑for‑dollar match up to 4% (eligible after 30 days)
  • PTO that starts accruing your first full month
  • 9 paid holidays
  • Seasonal closure(s) to support true work‑life balance
  • Continuing education reimbursement
  • Employee Assistance Program (available to you and family members in your household)
Life at Earth Kind

We asked our employees what they like most about working here. Two themes came up repeatedly: work‑life balance and the lack of corporate red tape. Some people went on full rants about how big corporations are dreadful to work for: meetings about meetings, all‑day check‑ins that keep you from actually doing your work. That’s not how things operate here. We can actually focus on being productive.

Being a smaller company means managers know their people, and they’re more understanding that you have obligations outside of work. It’s still a demanding job; we’re just not as rigid as big bureaucracy. There’s real flexibility here, as long as the work…
