Job Summary

The Shop Interior Mechanic is responsible for the installation, maintenance, and continual improvement of all driver safety systems, as well as the assembly and upkeep of interior and electronic components in race vehicles. This role ensures all work meets NASCAR Truck regulations, supports driver comfort and performance, and contributes directly to the team’s competitive edge on track.

Duties/Responsibilities
  • Maintain, repair, and install wiring and electrical components on a week-to-week basis.
  • Transfer cooling systems and other at-track components between vehicles following race events.
  • Assist the engine department with setting throttle stops as needed.
  • Ensure all safety and electrical components are current, compliant, and meet NASCAR rule requirements.
  • Maintain consistent communication with road-crew interior mechanics to address driver-specific adjustments.
  • Test electrical systems and equipment to verify proper installation and functionality.
  • Fabricate and install seat rails, back braces, headrest mounts, leg braces, false floors, knee knockers, and steering columns to meet both NASCAR standards and individual driver requirements.
  • Perform installation, removal, and replacement of components as necessary.
  • Inspect interior and safety components for damage, especially following on-track incidents.
  • Maintain inspection logs and ensure SFI safety components remain in-date.
  • Identify defects in parts or systems and perform corrective actions.
  • Machine or modify parts as needed to meet specifications.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings to build and assemble components accurately.
  • Conduct quality control checks for materials, fabricated parts, and completed installations.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned to support team objectives.
Required Skills/Abilities

  • High attention to detail and accuracy in all work performed.
  • Strong accountability, reliability, and a proactive approach to problem-solving.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while remaining a collaborative team player.
  • Knowledge of driver safety requirements and NASCAR rules related to interior and electrical systems.
  • Familiarity with basic tools, shop equipment, and electrical repair techniques.
  • Basic mechanical knowledge with an understanding of electrical systems and troubleshooting.
  • Fabrication and machining skills are preferred.
Education and Experience
  • High School Diploma or GED required;
    Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Technology, Automotive Technology, or Engineering preferred.
  • Minimum 2 years of interior/electrical experience in a motorsports environment required.
  • Racing or NASCAR-specific experience required.
  • Fabrication experience preferred.
  • Basic computer skills required.
Physical Requirements
  • Prolonged periods of standing, bending, and stooping.
  • Ability to lift up to 75 pounds and push/pull up to 50 pounds as needed.
  • Ability to work in tight spaces or awkward positions for extended periods.
  • Must be able to access and navigate all areas of the organization’s facilities.
