Overview

I. POSITION SUMMARY

A. Operates and monitors the extrusion and pugging processes, which are integral procedures in the manufacturing of dried, formed products. Those products are supplied to the kiln area where they are fired in kilns, in which ceramic products are produced that meet the required specifications & quality standards.

Responsibilities

Complete the GHCM (Green Honeycomb Cutting Machine) set-up; check/reset the batch, work count, and total count settings located on the GHCM control panel; and record the settings on the Extrusion Activities Log Sheet

Adjust cradle kicker, cradle supply, first transfer and cradle feeder settings; confirm the adjustments by visual verification of proper operations; perform the die holder assembly procedures according to established instructions

Perform the power-up/start-up procedures according to approved instructions

Operate, monitor and adjust the extrusion process; observe, detect and react to visual defects in the extruded product and take the appropriate counter-measures as described in the Process Adjustment Plan

Obtain weight samples at the beginning of each travel ticket; mark the weight on the product; mark the weight on the travel ticket; input the information at the APICS (ACU Product Information Control System) terminal

Remove and clean machine components such as dies, masking plates, spacers, etc.; enter process data into the SPC (Statistical Process Control) software; maintain the extruder information board with data gathered from the die travel ticket and from the actual tooling in use

Remove and tag any formed material exhibiting contamination; move material to the confinement area; collect aomodori into designated totes, following established procedures for collecting, packing and palletizing

Perform necessary change-over procedures according to established work instructions; record all die adjustments during a production run onto the Die Adjustment Sheet

Work safely by avoiding forklifts; staying clear of forklift doors; using personnel doors when entering or exiting the buildings; and safely using overhead hoists

Participate in PM (Preventive Maintenance), MMOL (Machine Maintenance Operator Leader), and G5S (Global 5S: Sort, Set in Order, Shine, Standardize, Sustain) activities as needed

Follow all EMS (Environmental Management System) procedures, including the disposal of waste and used materials
