The Role
The Park Services Maintenance Technician III performs skilled and semi‑skilled work to ensure the beauty, safety, and functionality of the Town’s grounds and park facilities. This role is a vital member of the Park Services team, serving as a licensed pesticide applicator and a lead technician for specialized turf maintenance and park repairs.
An employee in this class handles a variety of manual labor tasks, ranging from chemical applications and irrigation repair to playground safety inspections and event setup. Accuracy and safety are essential, as this position operates specialized equipment and works in various environmental conditions to ensure Town citizens enjoy high‑quality recreational spaces. This position reports to the Park Services Supervisor and may require serving on‑call.
Dutiesand Responsibilities Park Services Maintenance Tech III (Spray Technician)
- Spray athletic turf fields with herbicides, fungicides, and insecticides.
- Weed and spray flower/shrub beds in parks with herbicides.
- Apply pre‑emergent in spring and fall seasons on athletic turf and common areas in parks.
- Fertilize athletic turf and spread or sod bare areas in turf.
- Maintain and repair irrigation systems on turf fields and at facilities.
- May perform park maintenance to include mowing, landscape maintenance, fertilizing, mulching, etc.
- May prepare athletic fields to include lining, dragging, routine and annual maintenance.
- Performs basic equipment maintenance.
- Assists with specialized turf maintenance.
- Sets up for Town events and moves Town property as directed.
- Operates equipment.
- Performs repairs throughout the park system.
- Performs routine playground inspections.
- Operates specialized equipment on occasion.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- High School Diploma or GED and three to five years of experience in landscaping, grounds maintenance, or park operations; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Ability to perform manual labor in various weather conditions and environments.
- Possession of a valid North Carolina Driver’s License.
- Possession of (or ability to obtain) a valid North Carolina Pesticide Applicator License.
- Preferred:
Certification in Playground Safety Inspection. - Ability to serve on‑call as required by the department.
