Seasonal H-2A Housing Inspector – Agricultural Outreach Representative
These positions are located at DEED offices in Marshall or Moorhead and require daily travel to rural and remote worksites across Minnesota. The appointments last from approximately May 1 through February 28 each year, with dates subject to change based on business needs.

Day shift, 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM, Monday – Friday - Travel required:
up to 100 % of the time - Salary: $25.67 – $37.26 per hour ($53,598 – $77,798 annually)

The Seasonal H‑2A Housing Inspector ensures employer‑provided housing for H‑2A agricultural workers meets all applicable federal and state health, safety, and occupancy standards. Responsibilities include conducting pre‑occupancy and follow‑up inspections, preparing detailed inspection reports, communicating required corrective actions to agricultural employers, maintaining accurate inspection records, and supporting audits and monitoring activities. The role works independently in the field and coordinates with state and federal partners.
Telework is eligible for this position.
- One (1) year of experience conducting inspections or compliance reviews in housing, safety, environmental health, agriculture, construction, building codes, or public health, or an associate’s degree in a related field substituted for six (6) months of experience; a bachelor’s degree substitutes for one (1) year of experience.
- Experience interpreting and applying regulations, codes, standards, and federal program requirements.
- Experience preparing detailed inspection reports and recommending corrective actions.
- Experience communicating regulatory or technical information clearly to the public, employers, or partner agencies.
- Experience working independently in the field with minimal supervision.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation, or alternative reliable transportation.
- Experience with the H‑2A program, temporary labor camp standards, or federal housing regulations.
- Experience using electronic reporting or case management systems.
- Experience working with agricultural employers, farm worker communities, or culturally diverse populations.
- Experience in public safety, environmental health, building inspection, or fire/life‑safety evaluations.
- Demonstrated cultural responsiveness and effective collaboration with diverse communities.
