The Medical Support Specialist (Plasma Center Nurse) reports to the Plasma Center Manager and supports daily center operations.
About the RoleThe role involves determining donor eligibility, managing donor adverse events, reviewing laboratory test results, and notifying donors of unsuitable results. The specialist works under the guidance of the Center Manager for operational guidance and under the Center Physician for medical issues.
Responsibilities- Determine donor eligibility, including informed consent, medical history interview, physical examination, blood testing, and review of Serological Protein Electrophoresis (SPE).
- Manage donor adverse events and evaluate donor reactions as outlined in the SOPs.
- Follow SOPs for medical emergencies, including developing standing orders and arranging donor transport to emergency care facilities.
- Refer to the Center Physician or Medical Affairs for unacceptable findings or technical issues related to donor safety and eligibility.
- Support HepatitisB and seasonal flu vaccination programs for employees.
- Manage employee incidents and determine need for further evaluation by occupational health/ER.
- Act as Pandemic Coordinator when authorized, supporting investigations related to pandemic threats.
- High school diploma or equivalent; or graduate equivalent of a recognized nursing program with state requirements.
- Current state licensure or certification (e.g., EMT‑Paramedic).
- Current CPR and AED certification.
- Fulfills state requirements for basic IV therapy.
- Completed FDA approved training for Bio Life Medical Support Specialist.
- Two years clinical or hospital experience.
Location:
USA – MN – Moorhead
Hourly wage range: $25.60–$35.20 (actual wage depends on qualifications, experience, skills, and location).
