Journeyman Electrician
The Journeyman Electrician supports factory, agricultural, and operations maintenance activities by performing high-voltage electrical work, troubleshooting complex equipment, and ensuring all installations and repairs comply with National, State, and Local Electrical Codes. This role combines hands-on technical work with documentation in SAP and mentoring junior and non-licensed personnel to maintain safe, efficient, and reliable operations.
Responsibilities
- Perform maintenance, repairs, and installations on electrical systems and equipment, including generators and switch gear, in a manufacturing and agricultural environment.
- Work safely with voltages up to 12,470V in 3-phase systems, as well as lower voltages in single-phase and 3-phase applications.
- Program, operate, and troubleshoot PLCs, DCS, and interlocking systems to support automated processes and ensure reliable plant operations.
- Use SAP to document, update, and access maintenance records, ensuring accurate tracking of work performed and equipment history.
- Interpret and work from blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings to install, maintain, and repair electrical and related mechanical systems.
- Troubleshoot and repair electrical issues involving wiring, controls, and associated mechanical components to minimize downtime.
- Perform work involving hydraulics, pneumatics, plumbing, framing, and fabrication as needed to support industrial installations and maintenance.
- Use hand tools and industrial equipment safely and effectively to complete installations, repairs, and modifications.
- Train, guide, and mentor non-licensed personnel who are working toward licensure, promoting safe work practices and technical proficiency.
- Maintain efficient workflow by planning tasks, coordinating with operations, and minimizing interruptions to production and agricultural activities.
- Ensure all work complies with applicable National, State, and Local Electrical Codes and internal safety standards.
- Participate in and pass required safety screenings and adhere to all safety procedures and protocols while performing job duties.
Essential Skills
- Current Journeyman Class A electrician license.
- High school diploma or GED.
- Ability to work with high-voltage systems up to 12,470V (3-phase) and lower-voltage single-phase and 3-phase systems.
- Proficiency in performing maintenance and repairs on generators, switch gear, and industrial electrical systems.
- Experience programming, operating, and troubleshooting PLCs, DCS, and interlocking systems.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings.
- Strong electrical troubleshooting skills, including wiring, controls, and industrial installations.
- Mechanical aptitude for working with hydraulics, pneumatics, plumbing, framing, and fabrication in an industrial environment.
- Proficiency with hand tools and industrial tools used for electrical and mechanical work.
- Ability to use SAP or similar computerized maintenance management systems to document and access maintenance records.
- Commitment to maintaining current technical knowledge and licensing requirements.
- Ability to pass a Safety Screen evaluating the capability to safely perform all job duties.
- Forklift certification or the ability to obtain forklift certification within required timelines.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Master electrician license preferred.
- Experience working in manufacturing or industrial environments.
- Background in agricultural operations maintenance is beneficial.
- Experience mentoring and training junior or non-licensed personnel.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Attention to detail and commitment to completing accurate documentation in maintenance systems.
- Ability to adapt to rotating shift schedules and maintain reliability in attendance and performance.
