Position Overview
Part‑time Instructor (Non‑Contact/Temporary) position in Stagecraft focusing on Prop & Scene Design/Construction/Crew Management at Moorpark College, beginning Fall 2026. Re‑application required for those who applied to previous pools.
DepartmentThe Theatre Arts Department seeks an accomplished prop and scenic designer and educator with advanced construction ability and crew‑management skills.
Responsibilities- Provide comprehensive classroom instruction to students from diverse backgrounds to facilitate attainment of academic or vocational objectives.
- Design, build, and supervise the creation of stage props, scenery, and related resources for theatrical productions.
- Lead and manage small production crews, ensuring safe and effective workflow during set construction and performance.
- Mentor and support a diverse student population, fostering inclusivity and academic growth.
- Collaborate with faculty to design course syllabi, develop instructional materials, and assess student learning outcomes.
- Participate in departmental, campus, and district meetings, committees, and curriculum development activities as required.
- Provide academic instruction through lectures, labs, or performance courses.
- Assess and develop students’ cognitive abilities, communication skills, and higher‑order thinking through assignments and activities.
- Advise students on study skills and resources and refer to support services.
- Evaluate student performance and give timely feedback.
- Plan instruction per approved outlines to maximize learning and meet institutional goals.
- Maintain accurate course records, enrollment, attendance, and progress reports.
- Select and order instructional materials in collaboration with discipline faculty.
- Revise course content in line with new theory and industry developments.
- Update syllabi and assess measurable performance indicators.
- Attend and participate on committees, meetings, and program development activities.
- Any bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) and two years of professional experience in design or construction; OR any associate degree (or equivalent) and six years of professional experience; OR possession of a valid California Community College teaching credential appropriate to the discipline.
- All coursework must be from a recognized accredited college or university.
- Foreign education credentials evaluated by approved agencies may be considered.
Part‑time faculty salaries range from $2,007 to $3,108 per semester per 10% load, based on educational achievement and relevant experience. Salaries are governed by the collective bargaining agreement between the Ventura County Federation of College Teachers, AFT, Local 1828, AFL‑CIO and the VCCCD.
