Overview

We anticipate the application window for this opening will close on - 12 Jun 2026. Mini Med is seeking a Sr R&D Engineering Manager for the New Ventures Group. This group focuses on developing new diabetes systems, products and solutions in an inorganic, accelerator environment. The role requires technical leadership in medical device product development to benefit patients with Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes who require intensive insulin therapy.

The Sr R&D Manager drives the technical strategy and execution of projects delivering patient-focused solutions and collaborates with a cross-functional team including external partners and internal experts across engineering and product development disciplines. The manager leads the engineering disciplines (systems, mechanical, electrical, firmware, software) and collaborates with manufacturing engineering, marketing, clinical regulatory affairs, quality and other key functions. The role involves generating technical plans based on risks, product architecture, and evaluation activities from concept to prototype to final product embodiments.

As the technical leader, you will work with the program leader, lead key technical efforts, and participate in senior leadership meetings.

Responsibilities
  • Build and enhance the R&D infrastructure to support New Venture programs.
  • Plan and lead the technical aspects of new product development from conception through commercialization.
  • Lead the engineering team to assess feasibility, characterization, and qualification of new features and technologies for product integration.
  • Define product and functional requirements and verify/validate against user needs.
  • Lead design reviews across the product development life cycle.
  • Support establishment of production lines and design transfer to manufacturing.
  • Collaborate with patients to understand needs, features, and design validation.
  • Support pre-clinical and clinical studies to validate safety and efficacy for regulatory clearance.
  • Contribute to technical due diligence of early-stage companies and potential collaborators.
  • Coach and mentor team members; build and maintain an IP portfolio; manage risk and escalation effectively.
  • Foster high-performing teams with clear communication to leadership and enabling functions; encourage mutual accountability.
  • Engage team members to ensure effective team dynamics and collaboration.
Qualifications
  • Minimum Requirements: Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering with a minimum of 7 years of relevant experience and 5+ years of managerial experience, or advanced degree with a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience and 5+ years of managerial experience.
  • Nice to Have: 10+ years of product development experience related to medical devices; experience in medical device fluidic systems; strong product development lifecycle expertise; track record of bringing products to marketplace.
  • Influence management skills and ability to work in a matrix environment; strong business acumen; results orientation and initiative.
  • Excellent communication, decision-making, analytical, planning, and organizational skills.
  • Experience with 3D CAM, MS Project, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, SharePoint and other collaboration tools.
