Senior Accountant (Contract-to-Hire)
Onsite in Moraga, CA
OverviewThis role is open due to an immediate need for additional accounting support while the organization continues efforts to hire a full-time employee. To accelerate onboarding and maintain continuity, the team is seeking a contract-to-hire Senior Accountant who can step in quickly and manage critical accounting operations. The position will focus on general ledger management, close activities, reconciliations, and process improvement within a higher-education-focused environment.
Must-HaveQualifications
- Experience in nonprofit, higher education, or public accounting (including candidates directly out of public accounting).
- Strong understanding of GAAP and core accounting principles.
- Hands‑on experience with Colleague or similar ERP systems.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other accounting software.
- Excellent analytical and problem‑solving skills.
- Strong communication and interpersonal abilities.
- Background that ensures experience with:
- General Ledger (GL)
- Operational and Corporate Accounting
- Month‑end and year‑end Close Activities
- Manual or semi‑manual accounting environments
- Nice to have:
Familiarity with Quick Books or similar small‑business accounting systems.
- Higher Education accounting experience (e.g., Grants Accounting).
- Exposure to or capability in technical accounting topics.
- Experience in environments using specialized college/university accounting systems.
