Saint Mary's College of California invites applications for Adjunct Faculty (per-course) to be assigned Instructional Work in the Nursing program. The candidate must be approved by the Board of Registered Nursing to teach one of the five content areas.
All nursing faculty at Saint Mary’s College practice using Maria O’Rourke’s Professional Role model with the primary Professional Role obligation to “do no harm.” Within this role, we are expected to be leaders/decision‑makers, practitioners, and scientists and transferors of knowledge. Faculty are expected to ensure the practice of the professional role obligations and that we train our students in a manner that promotes their understanding of their role and helps with role clarity.
Faculty are required to integrate role clarity as a concept when training/mentoring faculty, developing curriculum, teaching students, and participating in creating policies and procedures. The faculty member is responsible for ensuring that role‑driven practice is used as the framework for all activities.
The Faculty member is accountable for the leadership and management of the instructional work and content performed as assigned. The individual in this role has responsibility to ensure all the related program policies are followed. Faculty are required to adhere to all accreditation standards and the California Nurse Practice Act Standards. The faculty member ensures that curricular and program requirements are maintained in accordance with national accreditation standards and the policies and procedures in place at Saint Mary’s College.
Reports to the Assigned Academic director.
The Faculty member will provide leadership and coordination to ensure activities are designed to foster student success with supportive teaching methods. Faculty will ensure evidence‑based practice and professional roles are incorporated both in meeting patient care needs and student learning outcomes. Faculty, in collaboration with leaders, and other faculty, develops and ensures the quality of the course that supports the evaluation of student competencies.
This position is teaching across two clinical sections.
QualificationsNursing seeks adjunct faculty members for instructional work in one of the five content areas. The position requires on‑campus availability, with the potential for growth in the size of the position in future terms.
Term Dates, Days and Times of instructional work assignments are TBD.
All work must be performed in the State of California.
Salary Range
The salary range for this position is $46.55 - $64.43 per hour and is covered by the Collective Bargaining Agreement between the College and SEIU, Local 1021, available here.
Minimum Qualifications:
Master’s degree in Nursing or BSN with a minimum of three (3) years of experience.
Approved by the Board of Registered Nursing to teach one of the BRN five content areas.
Current and unencumbered license as a Registered Nurse in the State of California.
Three years of continuous experience as a registered nurse providing direct patient care within the last five years.
Demonstrated ability to communicate and work effectively with a diverse student body, staff, faculty, and administrators.
Experience in using computers and other technologies for teaching and learning.
Preferred Qualifications:
Demonstrated record of teaching successfully at the undergraduate level with specific experience in an area of specialty.
Demonstrated experience developing, managing, and evaluating curriculum, or programs.
