5% general wage increase is scheduled for july 1, 2026.
additional compensation8% holiday pay in lieu of holidays off. Based on approximately 16 overtime hours worked per week, additional pay ranges from $713 to $786 weekly, in accordance with flsa guidelines for hours worked beyond the standard 40‑hour work week. Overtime hourly rate: $44.57 – $49.13.

position descriptionunder direction of the ambulance supervisor and senior single role paramedic, the emergency medical technician provides the highest‑level emergency medical care at the basic life support (bls) level while assisting paramedics in providing advanced life support care. The emt will respond to both critical and non‑critical medical responses working with a paramedic partner and members of an engine or truck company on certain responses.
The incumbent may be assigned to a bls unit that focuses on non‑critical responses; members assigned to a bls unit may respond along with other mofd units to critical calls.
- assist crew in maintaining vehicle readiness in accordance with mofd policies and procedures.
- ensure appropriate level of cleanliness for all ems supplies stocked on the member’s assigned ambulance.
- ensure all ems supplies and equipment is maintained in a ready status such that response is never delayed.
- respond to ems calls across the district. Operate mofd ems vehicles in accordance with all california vehicle codes and district regulations.
- on scene provide appropriate level of bls assessments and interventions.
- assist paramedics in performing als functions.
- provide care according to the standards established by the contra costa lemsa policies and protocols.
- provide care and transportation to people experiencing medical emergencies ensuring patients are transported to receiving facilities as outlined in the contra costa lemsa policy manual.
- provide appropriate care and documentation for individuals refusing care or transport.
- follow the direction of incident commanders during large‑scale responses such as structure or wildland fires.
- perform station duties as assigned by the station captain.
- take part in drills and other training.
- maintain all appropriate licenses and certifications.
- participate in community outreach activities.
- timely completion of reports.
- other duties as assigned.
- equivalent to completion of the twelfth (12) grade.
- accredited emt in contra costa county or the ability to obtain accreditation within six (6) months of appointment.

- possession and maintenance of a valid california driver’s license.
- possession of a valid california emt certification at time of application; ability to maintain a valid california emt certification.
- must possess valid aha and cpr certifications at time of application.
