Job Summary
Performs tasks which require minimal training and that can be learned relatively easily and involve few decisions. Positions are typically clerical or non‑technical in nature and may involve basic computer usage.
Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesDuties and responsibilities will typically involve repetitive tasks such as making copies, filing, picking up and sorting mail, answering telephones, running errands, etc. The position requires limited contact with internal and external customers. Other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Other Duties and Responsibilities- Responds to students via telephone and walk‑in questions.
- Sends and receives faxed communications.
- Sorts and distributes departmental mail.
- Records payments received and distributes to appropriate persons.
- Maintains documentation in an orderly, alphabetical system.
- Assists with campus events such as open house programs.
- Must be a current MSU student.
- Must maintain satisfactory academic progress.
- Must be comfortable using telephone and have basic analytical skills.
- Must be able to follow written and verbal instructions.
- Must be able to operate basic office equipment (e.g., copier, telephone).
- No specific education or specialized skills required.
The student worker must possess the ability to communicate clearly as the majority of the work is done on the telephone. Maintaining polite and courteous behavior to all customers during peak business times is essential. The worker must be able to handle high call volume and walk‑in questions during peak times and manage stressful situations with professionalism. Students should be able to operate a basic fax machine and have a working knowledge of Microsoft Windows, including Word and Excel.
Strong organizational and self‑motivated skills are highly desirable.
The work environment is an office setting. Students will be required to wear appropriate clothing. The role may involve occasional light lifting (e.g., placing paper in cabinets). There are no specific physical challenges beyond standard office work.
Working ConditionsThe primary location is an office under normal office conditions. Students may need to handle basic calls and may occasionally traverse between different office spaces. The job does not involve exposure to hazardous environments. The role requires handling routine telecommunications equipment.
