The Adult Learning Center at Morehead State University is accepting applications for a Part Time Adult Basic Education Instructor II Rowan County Correctional Facility. The anticipated start date is January 16, 2026.
Morehead State University is located in Morehead, KY, a designated Kentucky Trail Town, nestled in Daniel Boone National Forest, in close proximity to Cave Run Lake. This location provides opportunities for a wide-range of outdoor recreation activities. Additionally, Morehead State University is relatively close to a number of larger cities including Lexington, KY, Louisville, KY, and Cincinnati, OH. RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provides course and individual instruction in the content areas of the GED, Adult Basic Education, literacy, ACT, SERV Safe Food Handler assessment, and ESL. Travel may be required to provide instruction. Develops and organizes a curriculum that reflects the needs of the students including instruction for individuals pursuing postsecondary, life skills and workplace education.
Establishes effective working relationships with adult learners, co-workers, family resource centers, education institutions and social service agencies. Makes Internet assignments and tracks study hours for virtual learners. Administers and scores diagnostic tests of adult learners (Pre-GED, TABE, ESL) and monitors student progress.
REQUIREMENTS: A bachelor's degree is required. Two years of related experience preferred. The incumbent must be proficient in the basic educational skills required to provide GED instruction (reading, math, language, social studies, and science), literacy, ACT/KYOTE instruction and ESL. Also needed are proficient computer skills, excellent communication skills, ability to be flexible with work schedules and acceptance of diverse populations. A valid Kentucky driver's license is required.
Working Conditions:
Some travel with overnight stays is expected for professional development. The incumbent may travel between counties to provide instruction. Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment. No or very limited exposure to physical risk.

Organizational Relationships
The ABE Instructor II reports to the Director, Adult Education and collaborates with the Assistant Director/Instructor to plan courses and recruit students. Incumbent interacts daily with adult students, learning center staff, and the general public. The program is funded by the Kentucky Education and Labor Cabinet (KELC)/Kentucky Adult Education and Literacy (KYAE) on an annual basis.
