The department of Nursing at Morehead State University is accepting applications for a full-time position as an Academic Department Specialist (NURS). The anticipated start date is March 16, 2026.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
With limited supervision, the Department of Nursing Academic Departmental Specialist serves as the office coordinator and reports directly to the Department Chair. The Department of Nursing Academic Departmental Specialist has signing and approval duties as identified by the department chair; assists the departmental faculty and staff and serves as the initial contact with students and the public. The Department of Nursing Academic Departmental Specialist is responsible for the disposition of various requests made to the department.
He/she is responsible for many administrative operations following department and university regulations and directives relieving the department chair, faculty and staff of some administrative tasks. The Department of Nursing Academic Departmental Specialist must have the ability to anticipate tasks that need to be done and to work independently with initiative to accomplish tasks while simultaneously completing the daily routine work.
The Department of Nursing Academic Departmental Specialist must be knowledgeable of department and university programs in order to answer inquiries based upon administrative policy. Making decisions, dealing with confidential matters, assisting faculty, and assisting other Department of Nursing clerical staff are included in this position. Dealing with confidential matters is a critical aspect of this position.
REQUIREMENTS:
Associate's degree or high school diploma (or GED equivalent) with two years of secretarial experience. Must have experience with and knowledge of various computer software related to department needs.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor's degree preferred. Knowledge of medical terminology and experience with payroll, budget monitoring, and the maintenance of bookkeeping records associated with office accounts is desirable. Knowledge of a variety of software applications.

Organizational Relationships
The Academic Departmental Specialist (ADS) of Nursing reports to the department chair. The Academic Departmental Specialist of Nursing assists program coordinators, and supervises work study students. Interacts with higher administration, faculty, professional staff, students, and the general public.
Physical Requirements
Must be able to sit and/or stand for long periods. Must be able to lift up to 25 lbs. to deliver packages to offices.
Working Conditions
Busy office environment with interruptions and noise due to frequency of visitors, students, faculty, staff, and callers. Pressure may be expected on the job due to the frequency and number of visitors, students and callers, and the meeting of multiple job deadlines. Overtime may be required during emergencies.
