Job Description

Responsible to:
Principal, Assistant Principal

Basic Function:
Fulfills the requirements of classroom instruction with punctuality, reliability, and responsibility.

Responsibilities
  • Prepare lesson plans appropriate for the assigned classroom, content, and grade level.
  • Exercise proper care of materials and equipment.
  • Communicate needs of the classroom to appropriate personnel.
  • Arrive for work at the assigned hour and not leave before the assigned time.
  • Communicate appropriately and effectively with other staff members, parents, students, and administration.
  • Accept assistance, advice, and guidance from supervisors and make an effort toward improving skills.
  • Share ideas, plans, materials, and facilities.
  • Stay alert to district, school, and personal goals and priorities, and seek professional learning appropriate to these needs.
  • Keep confidential information obtained in the course of professional service, unless disclosure serves a professional purpose or is required by law.
  • Respect the rights, feelings, and differences among individuals, and communicate directly in any situation.
  • Adhere to the professional code of ethics stipulated by the Kentucky Department Professional Board.
  • Employ classroom management techniques that result in a positive atmosphere for teaching and learning, including starting class promptly, communicating expected behaviors, ensuring student engagement, and intervening appropriately for inappropriate behavior.
  • Choose appropriate materials and equipment for teaching lessons and handle them efficiently.
  • Engage in effective unit/lesson planning: follow curriculum documents, establish objectives, and use strategies to promote student engagement and achievement.
  • Recognize student differences in needs, abilities, and interests and adapt instruction to meet those differences. Communicate lesson objectives and purpose, relate new learning to prior learning, provide opportunities for accountability, demonstrate subject knowledge, check understanding, provide practice opportunities, apply reinforcement theory, maintain a conducive classroom climate, incorporate student interests, encourage and praise effort, ensure measurable success, schedule practice for retention, allow students to verbalize critical attributes, and collect data to evaluate performance and plan next lesson.
Qualifications
  • Approved certification with the State of Kentucky.
