Immediate Supervisor: Director of Pupil Personnel

Qualifications
  • Hold a bachelor’s degree or higher and the required Kentucky certificate for the position.

Job Goal

To ensure that students certified as eligible for home hospital instruction benefit from an ongoing educational program at home or in the hospital.

General Duties and Performance Responsibilities
  • Determine appropriate action within clearly defined guidelines.
  • Present a positive image of the school to parents and convey the school’s concern with each student’s education, growth, and development.
  • Seek to establish friendly and cooperative partnerships between home and school.
  • Develop a positive public relationship between the school district and the community.
  • Carry out assignments in a timely manner without undue checking.
  • React positively to directives.
  • Cooperate with the superintendent, district administrators, principals, and staff.
  • Maintain the confidentiality of each student’s educational record, both verbally and in written form.
  • Strive to maintain and improve professional competence.
  • Take necessary precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Adhere to the Board of Education Policies and Procedures.
Specific Duties and Performance Responsibilities
  • Work with guidance counselors and the Director of Pupil Personnel to identify each student’s educational needs and physical and learning capabilities.
  • Devise, with the advice of the student’s regular teacher(s) or school principal, an instructional program for each student receiving homebound instruction on a temporary basis.
  • Meet with each assigned student on a regularly scheduled basis for the purpose of providing instruction (1 hour, 2 times per 5‑day period).
  • Acquire personal acquaintanceship with the student’s parents or guardians and establish a cooperative relationship based on the student’s individual needs.
  • File written progress reports on each student with the parents or guardians and the regular teacher(s).
  • Keep, maintain, and file required reports such as attendance reports and case evaluations.
  • Assume responsibility for obtaining textbooks and other teaching materials necessary through established procedures.
  • Interpret the home hospital instruction program to regular district staff and the community as required.
  • Stay informed of trends and new methods in education and assess their applicability to home hospital instruction.
  • Participate in school‑based admissions and release committee meetings when requested.
  • Monitor and assess student progress and provide regular feedback to students, parents/guardians, and other school staff.
  • Maintain accurate, complete, legible, and correct records as required by law, board policies, and administrative regulations.
  • Assume professional and personal responsibility for the management and progress of classes under one’s authority, direction, and supervision.
  • Perform other duties related to the position as assigned by the supervisor.
Days of Employment

Up to 187 days

Terms of Employment

Basic contract is for the minimum school term as reflected in the school calendar for the current year. Salary is determined by the District Board‑approved salary schedule. Additional duties may be assigned with increments determined by the District Board‑approved Extra Service Schedule.

Evaluation

Performance will be evaluated in accordance with the Board’s policy on Evaluation of Certified Personnel.
