Responsible ToPrincipal
Basic FunctionFulfills the requirements of classroom instruction with punctuality, reliability, and responsibility.
Performance Responsibilities- Prepared lesson plans that are appropriate for classroom/content/grade level assignment.
- Exercises proper care of materials and equipment.
- Communicates needs of the classroom to the proper personnel.
- Arrives for work at the assigned hour and does not leave before the assigned time.
- Communicates appropriately and effectively with other staff members, parents, students, and with administration.
- Accepts assistance, advice, and guidance from those responsible for supervising performance, and makes a concerted effort toward improving or refining skills.
- Shares ideas, plans, materials, and facilities.
- Alert to the district’s, school’s, and his/her own goals and priorities and seeks professional learning appropriate to these needs.
- Keeps confidential information obtained in the course of professional service unless disclosure serves a professional purpose or is required by law.
- The teacher respects the rights, feelings, and differences among individuals, and communicates directly with the person(s) involved in any situation.
- Adheres to professional code of ethics stipulated by the Kentucky Department Professional Board.
- The teacher begins the class promptly.
- The teacher communicates to students the behaviors expected of them, or there is evidence that expected behaviors have been communicated.
- Students exhibit classroom behaviors that promote active engagement from all participants in the lesson.
- Inappropriate behaviors receive immediate and appropriate teacher intervention.
- The teacher chooses appropriate materials and/or equipment for teaching a lesson.
- The teacher handles materials and/or equipment efficiently in the classroom setting.
- Engages in effective unit/lesson planning.
- Follows school or district‑established curriculum documents and processes.
- Establishes appropriate objectives (or learning targets) for each unit/lesson.
- Utilizes effective teaching strategies to promote student engagement and achievement.
- Recognizes student differences in needs, abilities, and interests and imparts instruction so these differences are met.
- Communicates the objective of the lesson to students.
- Communicates the purpose of the learning and makes content relevant.
- Relates the learning from the lesson to previous learnings and assists students in making connections.
- Communicates to students how they will be accountable for demonstrating proficiency in the learning.
- Demonstrates sound, up‑to‑date knowledge of the subject matter being taught.
- Checks periodically throughout the lesson for students’ understanding of the objective.
- Provides practice experiences for students of the appropriate number and variety to ensure mastery of the objective.
- Demonstrates knowledge of reinforcement theory throughout the lesson.
- Each aspect of the lesson provides evidence of attention to maintaining a classroom climate conducive to learning (Feeling Tone).
- Activities of the lesson demonstrate the teacher’s desire to include students’ interests in the classroom.
- Encourages, praises, and/or acknowledges student effort appropriately.
- Manages instruction so that each student demonstrates a measure of success.
- Evidence that practice is scheduled to guarantee retention of learnings.
- Gives students the opportunity to verbalize critical attributes of the learning before leaving the lesson.
- Collects data from the lesson to evaluate each student’s performance and assists in planning the next lesson.
Approved certification with the State of Kentucky.
