POLICE OFFICER
MOREHEAD CITY
, located on the beautiful Crystal Coast in eastern North Carolina, is seeking a dedicated and qualified candidate for the position of Police Officer
.
Police Officers perform a wide range of protective service duties, including enforcing laws, responding to calls for service, investigating criminal activity, collecting evidence, and providing support to the community. This position involves regular public interaction and requires sound judgment, professionalism, and a strong sense of duty. Work is performed under the moderate supervision of a departmental supervisor.
Essential Duties Include (but Are Not Limited To)- Patrols assigned areas by vehicle or on foot to monitor for criminal activity, suspicious behavior, and traffic violations.
- Responds to calls and complaints, issues citations, investigates traffic accidents, and assists the public.
- Interviews witnesses and victims; collects and secures evidence; writes detailed reports and testifies in court.
- Enforces local and state laws and ensures the safety, health, and welfare of the public.
- Provides various public services such as welfare checks, motorist assistance, funeral escorts, and crime prevention education.
- Makes arrests and completes related documentation in accordance with legal procedures.
- Maintains and inspects issued equipment to ensure readiness.
- Supports other officers and agencies when assigned; participates in special response activities as needed.
- May be assigned to specialized units such as K-9, narcotics, investigations, or tactical teams.
- Works rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, holidays, and on-call duty.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- North Carolina Basic Law Enforcement Training (BLET) Certification required.
- Valid North Carolina Driver’s License.
- Some knowledge of police procedures, criminal and traffic law, and departmental regulations.
- Ability to use sound judgment in high-pressure situations and communicate effectively in both written and verbal forms.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work respectfully with the public, peers, court personnel, and other agencies.
- Skill in the safe use of firearms and operation of emergency vehicles.
- Familiarity with the geography of Morehead City is a plus.
This is a full-time, non-exempt position with rotating shifts that may include nights, weekends, and holidays. Work may involve physical demands such as running, lifting, and exposure to weather or hazardous conditions. Officers are subject to on-call status during emergency situations. This is a safety-sensitive position.
Salary Range Starts at: $58,469
. Salary is based on 2184 annual hours.
