Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Collects fisheries data for annual monitoring and research activities. Collects and handles fish, using various fish and water sampling equipment. Trailers, launches and drives boat.
  • Maintains project equipment including numerous boats and trailers, vehicles, fish sampling gear, aerators, small motors, and other equipment. Keeps equipment clean, repaired, and ready for use.
  • Builds and maintains fish habitat and at tractors for district water bodies. Purchases materials. Lifts heavy objects and operates power tools and chain saw. Trailers, launches and drives boat.
  • Maintains department owned facilities, public boat ramps, courtesy docks and posting or maintaining regulation signs at all boat ramps. Mows, sprays herbicide, places rocks on jetties and picks up trash.
  • Maintains equipment inventory lists and processing purchase receipts. Maintains up-to-date maintenance records on all district equipment. Maintains accurate daily and monthly activity reports and submit forms as required.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements

EDUCATION:

High school graduate.

EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR

SKILLS:

Must have one year of fishery, wildlife or habitat management/development experience.

Substitute EDUCATION for

EXPERIENCE:

Additional related training will substitute for the required experience on a year for year basis.

Substitute EXPERIENCE for

EDUCATION:

Experience in fisheries, wildlife or habitat management/development will substitute for the required education on a year for year basis.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS (AGE, LICENSURE, REGULATION, ETC.):

Must possess a valid driver's license prior to appointment in this classification. Must maintain any required licensure(s), certification(s), or other credentials for the length of employment in this classification. Employing agency is responsible for ensuring employee possesses and maintains required licensure(s), certification(s) or other credentials.

Working Conditions

Travel, extreme weather conditions, heavy equipment and wildlife may pose hazards.

Probationary Period

This job has an initial and promotional probationary period of 6 months, except as provided in KRS 18A.111.
