Associate Engineer II – Public Works Land Development Division
The City of Moreno Valley is hiring an Associate Engineer II. This position is budgeted at the Senior Engineer, P.E. level and may be underfilled at the Associate Engineer II level. Incumbents hired at the lower level may be eligible for promotion to the higher level upon meeting qualifications, performance and management approval. Promotion is not guaranteed.
Key Responsibilities- Support the planning, design and execution of public works, land development, transportation and utility projects.
- Perform technical reviews of plans and reports.
- Conduct field inspections.
- Ensure compliance with contractor and consultant requirements.
- Prepare thorough project documentation.
- Serve as a key liaison between City departments, external developers, engineers and the community.
- Manage multiple priorities with professionalism and sound judgment.
Strong technical knowledge of engineering principles related to public works and land development. Ability to review complex grading, street improvement, and utility layout plans as well as technical reports such as hydrology and water quality plans. Demonstrated sound judgment and analytical skills in engineering calculations, permit management, construction inspection coordination and oversight of developer‑driven projects through entitlement, design and construction phases.
Detail‑oriented and organized with a strong written and verbal communication style. Proficiency in Accela is essential.
- Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or electrical engineering or equivalent related work experience.
- Three years of progressively responsible land development design and field experience or capital construction project engineering or electrical engineering experience.
- Valid registration as a Professional Civil or Electrical Engineer with the California State Licensing Board.
Registered professional engineering‑level in the engineering class series. Incumbents manage assigned projects, initiate communications, provide reliable information to engineering management, conduct compliance reviews and inspections, and review the work of design consultants and contractors to ensure timely completion within budget.
Public Works DepartmentThe Public Works Department administers public works and city engineering, maintains public facilities within the street right‑of‑way, designs and constructs city‑built capital improvements, administers traffic facilities, and provides electric service to new development.
