Overview

Job Summary:

As the leader of the health care team, provides professional nursing care, utilizing the nursing process in accordance with established standards of care, policies, and procedures. Demonstrates performance consistent with the Medical Center Vision, Mission, and Strategic Plan of the organization. Remains flexible to changing systems; is expected to demonstrate quality and effectiveness in work habits and clinical practice; and treats co-workers, patients, families, and all members of the health care team with dignity and respect.

Responsibilities
  • Essential Duties and Leadership:
    Upholds Kaiser Permanente’s policies and procedures, principles of responsibilities, and applicable state, federal and local laws. Serves as a leader of the health care team; delegates tasks appropriately; demonstrates accountability. Understands scope of practice for self and team members and escalates issues as appropriate. Demonstrates professional, supportive behavior. Champions new ideas. Leads and directs others through change. Uses communication strategies including chain of command and issue escalation to achieve outcomes.

    Participates in problem identification and resolution. Mentors, orients, and coaches others in unit operations and patient care activities. Shares responsibility and authority with subordinates and holds them accountable for performance. Demonstrates ability to collaborate with other departments to resolve issues. Prioritizes, delegates, and supervises work assignments to ensure completion of patient care activities. Complies with regulatory requirements, policies, procedures, and standards of practice.
  • Nursing Process:
    Develops and/or contributes to individualized care plans reflecting assessment, planning, implementing, and evaluating outcomes. Ensures plans include multidisciplinary planning, consultation, and education; reflect admission or outpatient data, ongoing findings, age-appropriate and culturally sensitive care, and appropriate acuity. Discusses plans with patient and family/significant others, and completes them timely. Monitors progress, revises plans as needed, and ensures discharge planning and patient education are completed.

    Ensures patient safety, medication and procedure safety, pain control, and patient comfort; addresses anxieties or concerns about condition, treatment, or discharge. Ensures patients understand medication purpose, side effects, and administration instructions at both hospital discharge and in the outpatient setting.
  • Documentation and Communication:
    Charts are accurate, legible, dated, and timed. Documentation reflects the nursing process and interventions and evaluations. Uses computer systems effectively for patient care. Communicates patient findings and progress toward outcomes with physicians and the health care team.
Experience Basic Qualifications
  • N/A
  • Minimum of one (1) year recent (within the last three (3) years) full-time equivalent experience in an acute care setting in the clinical area of specialty for the position.
  • If inexperienced, consideration may be given to graduates or experienced RNs not meeting above requirements per KP training programs: RN/IPs – new graduates and experienced RNs not meeting above requirements must be a graduate of a Board of Registered Nursing approved program with completion of 768+ hours of supervised RN clinical training.
Education

  • Successful completion of a Basic Arrhythmia course.
Licensure, Certification, Registration
  • Registered Nurse License (California)
  • Basic Life Support (American Heart Association)
Additional Requirements
  • Applicants must successfully complete a Kaiser Permanente Nursing Orientation Program. IP applicants must obtain RN license within 3 months of hire. Some qualifications may be inherited from Kaiser Permanente's purchase of Valley Health Systems Moreno Valley Community Hospital.
  • Entry into KP Nursing Orientation requires that candidates have less than 6 months of RN experience. All certifications must be obtained in accordance with departmental requirements.
Preferred Qualifications
  • BSN preferred.
