Registered Nurse III - MC/CHC - Per Diem – Pediatrics Critical Care Unit

The County of Riverside's Riverside University Health System (RUHS) is recruiting a Registered Nurse III - MC/CHC - Per Diem to provide advanced nursing care in the Pediatrics Critical Care Unit. The role involves applying advanced knowledge and skills for patients with complex needs and participation in quality assurance, policy review, staff education, and preceptorship.

Essential Duties
  • Assess, plan, organize, and provide nursing care to assigned patients in accordance with physician instructions; make preliminary observations and prepare patients for medical treatment.
  • Assist physicians in administering treatments and performing medical examinations, diagnostic tests, and surgical operations.
  • Administer prescribed treatments and medications, including dispensing, as ordered; chart and report significant changes.
  • Advise patients, families and others regarding medical problems and proper healthcare methods.
  • Maintain concise and complete records and reports; instruct patients in physician orders; transcribe physician orders to working records.
  • Provide orientation and training to new staff, residents, medical students, ROP participants, and nursing students.
  • Participate in quality assurance reviews; act as a team leader or relief charge nurse.
  • Assign and monitor the work of subordinate nursing personnel; identify staff training needs.
  • Triage patients by reviewing admission charts and assigning appropriate flows.
  • Testify in court regarding client’s mental and physical condition.
  • Coordinate and monitor patients through hospitalization utilizing physicians and payors to maintain quality care and fiscal responsibility.
  • Review post‑hospital care plans with patients/families and ensure follow‑up through discharge.
Required Licenses & Certifications
  • Current and valid Registered Nurse License in California.
  • Current and valid Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association.
  • Current and valid Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification issued by the American Heart Association.
  • Preferred:
    Current and valid Pediatric Care After Resuscitation (PCAR) certification.
Additional Information
  • Work Schedule:

    Night Shift, 7:00 p.m. – 7:30 a.m.; required 6 shifts per 6‑week scheduling period.
Salary Range (Hourly)
  • Hourly rate: $80.2448
Education

Successful completion of the education required to obtain a valid license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of California. A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in nursing or a related field may be required for some positions.

Experience

Equivalent to three years of full‑time experience as a Registered Nurse in an acute care facility or community health agency. A bachelor's degree or national nursing specialty certification may substitute for one year of the required experience; a master's degree may substitute for two years.

Knowledge Of

Current principles, techniques, and procedures in professional nursing; medical terminology and patient care routine appropriate to a clinical setting; medical instruments and equipment; uses and effects of medicines and narcotics; community resources for patient care; federal, state, and local laws governing professional nursing; identification of potential discharge needs; payor documentation requirements and regulations affecting reimbursement.

Ability To

Perform the full range of nursing duties and responsibilities in a patient care setting; plan and organize nursing plans; prepare and maintain concise and complete records; establish effective working relationships with physicians, patients, and peers; assist in the instruction of entry‑level nurses and ancillary personnel; keep abreast of developments; evaluate medical records; recommend continued stay necessity; identify discharge needs.

Other Requirements
  • Must possess and maintain a current valid license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of California.
  • Must possess and maintain a current valid Basic Life Support (BLS) certificate issued by the American Heart Association.
  • Possession of a valid California Driver’s License may be required.
