Overview

The County of Riverside - Riverside University Health System (RUHS) Medical Center is seeking a Bilingual Licensed Vocational Nurse I/II to join the Eye Clinic team in Moreno Valley. Under supervision and direction of a registered nurse, nurse practitioner, physician assistant, or physician, the incumbent will be responsible for ensuring the flow of the clinic, ensuring rooms are cleaned and turned over, assessing patients for triage of acute changes, maintaining and documenting medication temperatures and logs, ordering and maintenance of specialty medications, administration of oral, eye, and IM medications, scheduling appointments and emergency department follow ups, referrals and authorizations, completion on CRMs and work queues, prior authorizations, and performing nursing duties within the scope of the Nurse Practice Act for vocational nursing, among other related duties.

The RUHS Eye Clinic is a fast-paced, high-volume clinic providing ophthalmologic services to the Riverside County community. Subspecialties include medical and surgical retina, cornea, glaucoma, oculoplastics, and neuro-ophthalmology. We are looking for a highly motivated individual to join our team as the lead LVN. This is a leadership role within the clinic. The candidate will receive training on ophthalmologic machines, procedures, diagnoses, and equipment.

They will ensure that ophthalmology aides and residents follow policies and procedures and will be responsible for identifying and addressing barriers in the daily clinic workflow. They will work with the team to create a positive patient experience.

Responsibilities
  • Provide nursing care to patients within the scope of the Nurse Practice Act for vocational nursing; prepare patients for physicians, registered nurses, physician assistants, and nurse practitioners, and care for patients during treatment; administer medications using various routes as required.
  • Take vital signs; apply and change dressings; assist with examinations, tests, respiratory care, minor procedures, PAP smears, and colposcopies.
  • Perform venipuncture and injections; provide skin tests as part of tuberculosis control programs.
  • Document within the Nurse Practice Act guidelines; chart treatments and medications; maintain medical records; coordinate scheduling and referrals.
  • Assist physicians and mid-level providers in administration of treatments, examinations, and intravenous therapy; maintain medical records according to policies.
  • Educate patients on health care methods; schedule clinic appointments; refer patients for specialty care as needed.
  • Supervise health services assistants, certified medical assistants, and other LVNs as assigned.
Qualifications Licensed Vocational Nurse I
  • Experience:

    None required.
  • Knowledge:
    Current principles, techniques and procedures within the scope of the Nurse Practice Act for vocational nursing; medical terminology; charting and documentation processes.
  • Ability:
    Perform LVN duties, follow policies, establish effective relationships, and maintain records.
Licensed Vocational Nurse II
  • Experience:

    At least one year of successful LVN experience, preferably in a public health clinic.
  • Knowledge:
    Current principles and procedures within the Nurse Practice Act for vocational nursing; medical terminology; acute care procedures and equipment; medication administration policies.
  • Ability:
    Perform the full range of LVN duties; follow clinic policies; maintain effective relationships; complete and maintain reports and patient records; observe and report changes accurately.
Other Requirements
  • License:
    Valid California Vocational Nurse's License issued by the California Board of Vocational Nurse and Psychiatric Technician Examiners.
  • BLS:
    Valid Basic Life Support certification for professional healthcare providers (American Heart Association).
