Job Overview
The Riverside University Health System (RUHS) Medical Center is recruiting an experienced Registered Nurse for the Nurse Support Team – BERT Division. This per diem position focuses on providing specialized care for individuals experiencing behavioral or mental health crises throughout the hospital.
Responsibilities- Conduct rapid assessments, crisis intervention, and patient‑centered care for individuals experiencing behavioral or mental health emergencies.
- Perform comprehensive risk assessments and de‑escalate acute psychiatric situations.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams, administer and monitor psychiatric medications, and ensure accurate documentation.
- Assist physicians with administering treatments, performing medical examinations, diagnostic tests, and surgical operations.
- Provide nursing care in accordance with physician instructions, including preliminary observations and preparing patients for medical treatment.
- Administer prescribed treatment and medications, including dispensing and charting as ordered.
- Counsel and advise patients, families, and significant others regarding special medical problems and appropriate health‑care methods.
- Maintain concise and complete records and reports; transcribe physician orders to working records.
- Provide orientation and training to new staff, residents, medical students, and nursing students.
- Participate in quality assurance reviews; serve as team leader or relief charge nurse.
- Assign and monitor subordinate nursing personnel; identify staff training needs.
- Triage patients by reviewing admission charts and assigning patients to appropriate patient assignments or clinic flow.
- Coordinate and monitor patients through hospitalization utilizing physicians, primary care nurses, and third‑party payors to maintain quality care.
- Review post‑hospital care plans and follow through to discharge.
- Minimum 3 years of acute‑care RN experience, preferably with psychiatric and emergency department experience.
- Valid Registered Nurse license to practice in the State of California.
- Strong clinical judgment, effective communication skills, and dedication to patient‑centered care.
- Education:
completion of the education required to obtain a valid RN license; a bachelor’s degree in nursing or a health‑related field may be required for some positions. - Experience:
Equivalent to one year of full‑time experience as an RN in an acute‑care hospital, clinic outpatient setting, or health‑care agency program (for RN II); equivalent to three years for RN III (details omitted to keep brevity). - Knowledge of current nursing principles, medical terminology, patient‑care routines, medical instruments, medication use, community resources, and relevant laws and regulations.
- Ability to perform full range of nursing duties, plan and organize nursing plans, maintain records, collaborate with physicians, and assist in training entry‑level staff.
- Other requirements: maintain a current valid RN license; possession of a valid California Driver’s License may be required.
- A valid Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association
- CPI certification within 6 months of hire
- 5150 Certification within 6 months of hire
Work Schedule: 3/12, Night Shift (6:00 p.m. – 6:30 a.m.)
8 shifts required in a 6‑week period based on department needs, two of those shifts must be on the weekend.
Pay and Differentials- Evening Shift (6:00 p.m. – 11:00 p.m.): $2.50 per hour
- Night Shift (11:00 p.m. – 7:30 a.m.): $5.00 per hour
- $4.00 per hour Critical Care Pay Differential
- $4.00 per hour Specialty Team Differential
Note: Specialty Care/Critical Care differentials will be applied following completion of required specialty training, attainment of all necessary certifications, and departmental determination that the employee is authorized to work independently.
Per Diem RatesRegistered Nurse II MC/CHC Per Diem: $70.8141 per hour
Registered Nurse III MC/CHC Per Diem: $80.2448 per hour
