Licensed Vocational Nurse II - CHC-Moreno Valley

Licensed Vocational Nurse II – Community Health Centers, Riverside County, Morro Valley (Riverside University Health System – RUHS)

Under supervision and direction of a registered nurse, nurse practitioner, physician assistant, or physician, responsible for nursing duties within the scope of the Nurse Practice Act for vocational nursing in the care of patients in the Department of Mental Health or Public Health Ambulatory Family Health Center; also perform other related duties as required.

Monday – Friday, 8:30am – 5:00pm, 5/40 schedule.

• California Vocational Nurse's License issued by the California Board of Vocational Nurse and Psychiatric Technician Examiners
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association

• Provide nursing care to patients within scope of the Nurse Practice Act for vocational nursing; prepare patients for physicians, physician assistants, and nurse practitioners; administer medications via subcutaneous, intramuscular, intradermal, subdermal, and/or oral methods.
• Take temperature, pulse, respiration, and blood pressure; apply and change dressings; perform wound care; may collect specimens for laboratory analysis; assist physicians, registered nurses, and mid-level providers in examinations, tests, respiratory care, and other treatments including minor surgical procedures, PAP smears, and colposcopies.
• Perform venipuncture, injections, immunizations for pediatrics and adults, including TB, coccidioidomycosis, and histoplasmosis skin tests as part of a tuberculosis control program.
• Document all patient care within the scope of the Nurse Practice Act, maintain charts, records, and charge tickets; review charts to determine appropriate treatment and ensure proper scheduling and continuity of care.
• Counsel, advise, and educate patients regarding proper health care; set clinic appointments per established policies; refer patients to specialty care or external agencies based on payor source.
• Assist physicians, registered nurses, and mid-level providers in administration of special treatments, examinations, intravenous therapy; chart treatments and maintain medical records according to established practice policies.
• Assist in data collection, patient care plan development, rehabilitation programs, and documentation.
• Observe patients’ condition and behavior; report significant changes to the supervisor.
• Act under supervision of a physician, registered nurse, or mid-level provider as a nursing leader over health services assistants, certified medical assistants, office assistants, and other LVNs, if assigned.

• At least one year of successful experience as an LVN, preferably in a public health clinic environment.
• Knowledge of current principles, techniques, and procedures used in vocational nursing within the scope of the Nurse Practice Act; medical terminology, acute care procedures, equipment; medication administration and policies of the setting.
• Ability to perform the full range of vocational nursing duties, follow policies and procedures, collaborate with physicians, mid-level providers, registered nurses, patients, and co-workers; maintain accurate reports and patient records; observe and report accurately.
• Licenses: valid California Vocational Nurse's License and BLS certification.
• Valid California Driver’s License required; 10% of position may involve floating to other clinics.
