Overview
The Riverside University Health System – Medical Center (RUHS‑MC) Operating Room Department is seeking an Assistant Nurse Manager MC/CHC to join our team in Moreno Valley. The role may fill a Unit Leader or Unit Educator assignment within the perioperative services team.
Responsibilities- Provide operational leadership by supervising and evaluating perioperative nursing staff, coordinating daily department operations, managing staffing and patient care delivery, ensuring compliance with regulatory and safety standards, collaborating with interdisciplinary teams, and supporting the Clinical Directors.
- Develop and coordinate staff education, orientation, competency validation, and professional development programs. Promote evidence‑based practice, support quality improvement initiatives, mentor nursing staff, and foster continuous learning.
- Support the Clinical Director of Nursing Services I/II in planning, coordinating, and supervising nursing personnel for multiple units and/or programs.
- Assist in the coordination of in‑service educational programs and staff meetings; provide assistance to preceptors in developing unit orientation programs for new nurses.
- Prepare administrative records, reports and correspondence related to budget, unit or program operations.
- Promote reliability in the acuity classification of patients and serve as a working charge nurse or supervisor, as needed to meet staffing requirements.
- Instruct organized in‑service nursing courses to professional and para‑professional nursing personnel.
- Conduct orientation programs for new nursing personnel; provide direct oversight and supervision over the nursing personnel in the new‑grad program; participate in the evaluation and revision of instruction and nursing practices.
- Perform direct nursing care services as needed and educate and train staff to support evidence‑based practices.
- Facilitate assignments that support learning for the orientee or nurse learner and monitor clinical competences in real time during patient care events.
- Perform in‑service and training on medical equipment in real time.
- Promote collaboration among other departments, units, programs, and physicians; represent unit(s) or program(s) in committee meetings.
- Assist in candidate recruiting, training, promotion, and termination activities; monitor performance of nursing staff and provide feedback.
- Develop policies and procedures, standards of care and practice, and monitor nursing care in relation to regulatory standards such as The Joint Commission and other applicable laws.
Successful completion of the education required to obtain a valid license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of California. A bachelor’s degree in nursing from an accredited college or university is preferred.
ExperienceMinimum three years as a registered nurse, including at least one year in a charge nurse or lead capacity.
Knowledge- Application of the nursing process and full range of registered nurse duties and responsibilities.
- Principles and methods of supervision and training; basic management skills; problem‑solving techniques.
- Plan, organize, supervise, and evaluate nursing services within specific unit(s).
- Communicate effectively and positively manage change and conflict.
- Interpret licensure and accreditation standards; analyze and draft department policies and procedures.
- Apply productive problem‑solving skills; write clear and concise reports.
- Perform registered nurse responsibilities in accordance with the State of California Nurse Practice Act and implement the nursing process.
- Current and valid RN license to practice in California.
- Current and valid Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association.
- Valid CNOR (Certified Perioperative Nurse) certification or willingness to obtain within 6 months of hire.
- Must possess and maintain a current valid license to practice as a Registered Nurse in California.
- A valid California Driver’s License may be required.
- Unit Educator: 9/80, every other Monday off; hours 6:45 a.m. – 4:15 p.m.
- Unit Leader: 9/80, every other Monday off; hours 10:00 a.m. – 7:30 p.m.
