POSITION SUMMARY:

The CNA Supervisor is responsible for the overall management of direct resident care. He/ She works to ensure that all residents receive quality care and that all essential needs are met.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The following represents the essential functions of the CNA Supervisor's role. This list is intended to be a general description of duties and responsibilities; however, it is subject to change according to the needs of the facility determined by the Director of Nursing or corporate designee.

  • The CNA Supervisor is responsible for the overall management of the certified nurse aide workforce.
  • The CNA Supervisor coordinates resident care provided by CNAs including documentation completion and accuracy, program management, effectiveness, efficiency, and maintains accountability.
  • The CNA Supervisor will evaluate the effectiveness of hydration, restorative, and weight programs within the facility and take initiative to try new methods and use best practices.
  • The CNA Supervisor works with CNAs closely to maintain high standards in care making frequent rounds on the halls and assisting hands on when needed.
  • The CNA Supervisor trains new hires and assigns appropriate orientation training by other CNAs.
  • The CNA Supervisor maintains the CNA work schedule, assignment of duties, approving and denying requests off, documenting excused and unexcused absences, documenting tardiness and early quit, documents call-ins, shift swaps, and no-call/ no-shows, and oversees break schedules.
  • The CNA Supervisor documents in-service training, one on one counseling, and disciplinary action taken.
  • The CNA Supervisor documents 12 hours of continued education/ training for each CNA annually per the regulations.
  • The CNA Supervisor completes competencies for each employee upon hire, annually, and as needed.
  • The CNA Supervisor completes employee evaluations in writing per policy and provides verbal constructive and positive feedback regularly.
  • The CNA Supervisor may oversee the purchasing, stocking, and monitoring of supplies while being aware of budget expectations.
  • The CNA Supervisor evaluates equipment used by the CNA staff to ensure working order, cleanliness, and safety (computers, tablets, lifts, shower chairs, wheelchairs, etc.).
  • The CNA Supervisor is responsible for reporting departmental needs to the Administrator.
  • The CNA Supervisor may organize the cleaning of resident wheelchairs and walkers.
  • The CNA Supervisor promotes resident rights, dignity, and independence.
  • The CNA Supervisor contributes to residents' care plans and implements them as directed.
  • The CNA Supervisor informs nurses of changes in resident status/ condition.
  • The CNA Supervisor participates in Daily QA (morning) Meetings, Monthly/ Quarterly QA, Safety Committee Meetings, Resident Council Meetings when requested, Care Plan Meetings, in-service trainings, QAPI program, continuing education programs, and all other meetings called by Legacy or licensing entities.
  • The CNA Supervisor is a member of the Interdisciplinary Team (IDT Team).
  • The CNA Supervisor will assist during emergencies especially with creating staffing teams.
  • The CNA Supervisor promotes a positive, professional work environment.
  • The CNA Supervisor (if person is a licensed nurse) may be required to be on the on-call nursing schedule and assist in floor nurse duties when needed.
  • Must be available via telephone with reasonable response time or notify Director of nursing, corporate designee, or appropriate facility staff prior to unavailability.
  • Works beyond normal working hours (occasionally on weekends, holidays, and after hours) and in other positions temporarily, when necessary.
  • Must act in ways that promote professional and positive representation of the facility to the community.
  • Communicates in a professional and courteous manner using effective verbal and non-verbal communication skills with residents, their families, co-workers, and vendors.
