This position works collaboratively to maintain patient safety and provide basic patient care under the direct supervision of a licensed nurse. The role may include constant observation of the patient, notifying nursing personnel of changes in behavior or status, and intervening as needed to maintain patient safety. The candidate must communicate effectively with co‑workers, patients, families, and visitors and perform all functions delegated by the nurse staff while adhering to policies and procedures.
EducationPreferred – High School diploma or equivalent
Work ExperiencePreferred – Hospital and telemetry experience
Certifications- Current Louisiana Certification as a Nurses’ Assistant (CNA) – required
- Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association – to be obtained within 30 days of hire
- Crisis Prevention and Intervention (CPI) – to be obtained within 30 days of hire
- Proficiency in using computers, software, and web‑based applications.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills and the ability to present information clearly and professionally to varying levels of individuals throughout the patient care process.
- Excellent organizational skills.
- Excellent time‑management skills.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule, including 24/7 shifts, weekends, holidays, and on‑call availability.
- Supports the plan of care delegated by the staff nurse within the scope of skill verification.
- Maintains a clean and safe environment in the patient care area.
- Provides care based on physical, psychosocial, educational, safety, and related criteria appropriate to the ages of patients served in assigned areas.
- Communicates patient‑care needs effectively with patients, families, and other staff members, including multi‑disciplinary teams.
- Completes documentation of patient‑related tasks.
- Adapts behavior to the specific patient population, including respect for privacy, appropriate introduction, explanations of services or procedures, and communication style.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
The physical essential functions of this job include frequently exerting 10 to 20 pounds of force to move objects, occasionally exerting up to 100 pounds of force, and generally exceeding the demands of sedentary work. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform these essential functions. Because the incumbent works within a healthcare setting, there may be occupational risk for exposure to hazardous medications or hazardous waste.
