POSITION SUMMARY: The Behavior Support Specialist is responsible for developing and facilitating the implementation of functional behavior and inclusion plans at the Expanded Learning Program.
SALARY/PAY$26.00/hour
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS- Understand and align school day's behavior support systems to the after school program.
- Coach and train program leaders in the implementation of functional behavior and inclusion plans.
- Provide small group and targeted support to the most significant behavior needs.
- Create individualized support plans based on needs.
- Observe program leaders and provide coaching and support in implementing effective classroom management guidelines and supports.
- Develop and implement positive behavior incentive programs for classrooms and whole program.
- Utilizes specialized behavior approaches to assist students with improving his/her communication skills; social skills; play skills; motor skills; self-help skills; school readiness skills; and self-management skills.
- Integrate YMCA core values in all behavior support plans.
- Support in the documentation of behavior logs and reports.
- Communicate with Site Director and School site plan to align and collaborate on student cases that need additional supports.
- Participates in various activities (e.g., meetings, training, etc.) to receive and/or convey information.
- Support additional essential job functions as assigned.
Visual and auditory ability to observe and to respond to critical incidents and the physical ability to act swiftly in an emergency situation;
Ability to lead and interact in group activities and perform related physical skills;
Ability to stand, walk, sit, stoop, kneel, or crouch. Ability to climb, push, and pull;
Ability to lift and carry objects up to 20 pounds.
- Two years of experience working with youth and/or teens with focus.
- Experience as a school instructional Aide or Paraprofessional.
- Experience, education and/or training in behavior guidance and support systems.
- Certified in CPR and First Aid (or be certified within 30 days of hire).
- Certified in Mental Health First Aide (or be certified within 30 days of hire).
- Complete YMCA child abuse prevention within 30 days of hire.
- Provide proof of negative tuberculosis test.
- 48 semester college units required or successful completion of NCLB test/Paraprofessional or Instructional Aid.
