Service Technician
Job Purpose:
Perform vehicle diagnosis, maintenance, and repair services in accordance with dealership, manufacturer, and industry standards. The Service Technician is responsible for efficiently diagnosing and repairing vehicles while maintaining high-quality workmanship, productivity, safety, and customer satisfaction.
Key Responsibilities:
Vehicle Diagnosis & Repair Perform vehicle inspections, diagnostics, maintenance, and repair services on customer and dealership vehicles
Diagnose mechanical, electrical, diesel, drivability, suspension, steering, brake, and other vehicle concerns accurately and efficiently
Perform repairs according to manufacturer specifications and dealership standards
Complete warranty, customer-pay, and internal repair work as assigned
Conduct road tests and vehicle inspections to verify repair completion and vehicle performance
Identify additional repair or maintenance needs and communicate findings appropriately
Maintain productivity and efficiency standards in a flat-rate work environment
Ensure repairs are completed accurately and within established time guidelines
Repair Order & Documentation Responsibilities Accurately document diagnosis, repair procedures, parts usage, and labor operations on repair orders
Follow manufacturer warranty policies, procedures, and documentation requirements
Maintain accurate and timely completion of repair order documentation
Utilize dealership management systems (DMS), diagnostic equipment, and manufacturer software programs effectively
Communicate repair status and technical information with Service Advisors and management as needed
Assist with quality control and verification of completed repairs when appropriate
Shop Operations & Safety Maintain organization and cleanliness of work areas, shop equipment, and dealership property
Properly use and maintain dealership tools, diagnostic equipment, and shop equipment
Follow all dealership safety policies, OSHA requirements, and manufacturer repair procedures
Maintain professional working relationships with coworkers, management, vendors, and customers
Attend dealership meetings, manufacturer training, and certification programs as required
Stay current on manufacturer technical bulletins, repair procedures, and product updates
Uphold confidentiality regarding customer and dealership information
Perform additional duties and responsibilities as assigned by management
Job Qualifications:
Required Qualifications Previous automotive technician experience required
Strong mechanical, diagnostic, and problem-solving skills
Ability to diagnose and repair vehicle systems accurately and efficiently
Ability to multitask and perform effectively in a fast-paced flat-rate environment
Strong attention to detail and quality workmanship
Professional appearance and positive attitude
Strong organizational and time management skills
Basic computer proficiency required
Ability to learn and utilize manufacturer diagnostic systems and dealership software programs
Dependable attendance and punctuality required
Ability to maintain confidentiality regarding customer and dealership information
Ability to follow dealership policies, procedures, and safety standards
Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record required
Ability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as business needs require
Preferred Qualifications Previous Ford dealership experience preferred
Ford certification or ASE certifications preferred
Previous flat-rate technician experience preferred
Diesel, drivability, electrical, alignment, or heavy-duty repair experience preferred
Experience using dealership management systems (DMS), manufacturer diagnostic equipment, and repair software preferred
Ability to perform advanced diagnostics and repair procedures preferred
Experience working in high-volume dealership service environments preferred
Bilingual communication skills are a plus
Physical Requirements:
Ability to frequently stand, walk, bend, kneel, crouch, squat, reach, and work in various physical positions
Ability to frequently lift, carry, push, and pull parts, tools, and equipment up to 50 pounds
Ability to occasionally lift and move heavier objects with assistance or proper equipment
Ability to work in a fast-paced dealership service environment
Ability to regularly use hands and fingers for tools, equipment, and computer-related functions
Ability to work around moving mechanical parts, automotive equipment, chemicals, fumes, and varying temperatures
Ability to safely operate customer and dealership vehicles
Ability to regularly perform repetitive hand, arm, and body movements during repair procedures
