Job Summary

Statement of Primary Purpose

As a member of the team under the direction of the Department Head of Nursing, the instructor is responsible for the planning, selection, organization, supervision, facilitation, and evaluation of the learning experiences of nursing students in specified nursing courses.

Nursing faculty are expected to commit to the philosophy and objectives of the Nursing Program and the College and work together to foster quality nursing education and patient/client care and an outstanding reputation for excellence and professionalism.

Essential Responsibilities/Duties

The instructor participates in the development, implementation, instruction, and evaluation of the Nursing Program and is involved in college-related activities.

Essential duties include:

* Teach students effectively to meet student learning outcomes.

* Assist with the development of course documents and evaluation tools.

* Select and implement appropriate student learning experiences.

* Participate in the development, implementation, and evaluation of nursing program curriculum and student policies.

* Assist with the evaluation and revision of course content and structure.

* Assume responsibility for teaching assignments as recommended by the Nursing Department Head.

* Maintain student records and monitor student progress.

* Maintain office hours as required by college policy.

* Advise and register potential and current students.

* Review and select texts and learning resources.

* Submit requisitions for supplies and materials.

* Maintain nursing lab, supplies, and materials as assigned.

* Teach, supervise, and evaluate students in the clinical area.

* Assist with the development of student clinical schedules.

* Foster effective relationships in clinical agencies and with all other college faculty, staff, and administration.

* Complete professional development as required by the College while also remaining current and competent in nursing practice, teaching methodologies, and with nursing literature, including evidence-based practices.

* Attend and participate in faculty, advisory, and assigned committee meetings related to the Nursing Program, and serve on college committees as well.

* Other duties as assigned.

Licensing Requirements

Current unrestricted licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of North Carolina.

Physical Demands

No substantial physical activity required. The functions of the job are usually performed sitting, standing and walking. Individuals are required to perform these movements without a significant risk of injury to themselves or others, or to otherwise demonstrate or explain how they can perform the essential functions listed.

Working Conditions

Work is performed in the office setting, classroom, and various clinical sites.

Hazard Assessment

Minimal standards of practice are followed as recommended by the Centers for Disease Control (CDC).

Personal Protective Equipment

Hand washing per CDC Hand Hygiene guidelines.

Hiring Range - Minimum to Midpoint ($5,497 - 6,252/monthly) 9-month contract

Minimum Qualifications

* Bachelor of Science in Nursing with completion of active enrollment in a Master of Science in Nursing program is required.

* Minimum of two years of full-time clinical experience as a Registered Nurse or the part-time equivalent.

Preferred Qualifications

* Master of Science in Nursing or related field (e.g., Nurse Education) is preferred.

* Three years of full-time clinical experience as a Registered Nurse or the part-time equivalent is preferred.

* Previous teaching experience is preferred.

* Preparation in teaching and learning principles for adult education, including curriculum development, implementation, and evaluation, is preferred. (

If instructor does not meet this qualification on hire, they must be prepared to complete additional education and/or professional development to meet North Carolina Board of Nursing requirements.)
