Exceptional Student Population Teacher (EC/ESP) in our Youth School at Foothills Correctional Institution, Morganton, NC. Main point of contact, providing support and instruction in core academic areas to students pursuing a high‑school equivalency diploma. Requires strong instructional skills and work ethic.
Job Responsibilities- Design lessons and instructional materials for English/Language Arts (reading, writing, grammar, vocabulary) and Mathematics with clear learning targets and measurable goals aligned with state standards, suitable for diverse age and academic level students.
- Provide effective direct group and individual instruction tailored to each student’s needs, motivating participation and achieving academic goals and facilitating successful transitions.
- Manage classroom behavior and maintain an orderly environment using effective behavioral management techniques.
- Collaborate with fellow teachers and other school personnel regarding student progress and best instructional practices.
- Perform any additional duties assigned by the principal.
Salary determined by qualifications and experience, ranging from $49,200 to $84,948, based on the NC Department of Public Instruction salary schedule.
This is a full‑time, permanent position (40 hours per week) with state benefits and a year‑round schedule.

- Experience with educational practices for at‑risk students.
- Experience preparing lessons aligned to College and Career Readiness Standards and the NC Standard Course of Study.
- Experience aggregating, disaggregating, and interpreting standardized tests and other assessment results.
- Experience utilizing formative and summative data to identify, diagnose, evaluate, and modify instruction.
- Experience using technology‑based productivity applications and student information systems such as Microsoft Office Suite.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with stakeholders.
Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate teaching area and a current, non‑expired North Carolina Professional Educator’s License (Class Code A, M, S, or
D). Licensure must include 25881 EC – General Curriculum (Grades K‑6) or an EC certification area (e.g., EC English, EC Math, Cross‑Categorical, Learning Disabled, or Special
Education:
General Curriculum). Applicants may be eligible for an Emergency or Residency teaching license or Provisional Certification in the relevant area.
