Job Title: Spoken Language Facilitator (Hourly)
Department: Exceptional Children (EC) Services
Reports To: Director of Exceptional Children and School Principal
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt (Hourly)
Employment Status: Full-Time, Hourly with Benefits
Term of Employment: 10-Month Position (7.5 Hours Per Day)
Salary: Hourly rate based on the Burke County Public Schools Classified Salary Schedule
Benefits: Eligible for full-time Burke County Public Schools employee benefits

Position PurposeThe Spoken Language Facilitator (SLF) provides instructional support and communication services to students who are deaf or hard of hearing under the direction of licensed professionals and the Exceptional Children Department. The facilitator assists students in developing listening, spoken language, communication, academic, and social skills while supporting Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Provide direct instructional support using listening and spoken language strategies.
- Reinforce communication, listening, speech, language, and academic skills identified in IEPs.
- Support students in general education and special education settings.
- Assist students with hearing technology, including hearing aids, cochlear implants, and FM/DM systems.
- Collaborate with teachers, speech-language pathologists, audiologists, and EC staff.
- Monitor student progress and maintain service documentation.
- Prepare instructional materials and classroom accommodations.
- Encourage student independence, self-advocacy, and effective communication.
- Support positive behavior and social-emotional development.
- Participate in IEP meetings, staff meetings, and professional development.
- Maintain confidentiality of student information.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Knowledge of communication techniques for students with hearing loss.
- Ability to support listening and spoken language development.
- Strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with staff and families.
- Ability to maintain accurate records and confidentiality.
- Must have a minimum of forty-eight (48) semester hours of creditable college coursework from an accredited college or university.
- Associate degree or higher preferred.
- Experience working with children, particularly students with hearing loss or disabilities, preferred.
- Must meet all Burke County Public Schools employment requirements.
Must be able to stand, walk, bend, reach, lift up to 25 pounds, communicate effectively, and travel between assigned school locations as needed.
Performance EvaluationPerformance will be evaluated annually in accordance with the Burke County Public Schools Classified Employee Evaluation System.
