First or Second Grade Teacher
Location: Drexel Elementary, Morganton, North Carolina
Job PurposeWe are seeking a passionate, student‑centered School Teacher to join our academic team. The ideal candidate will create an engaging learning environment that supports students' intellectual, social, and emotional development in grades K‑5. This role requires strong classroom management skills, subject‑matter expertise, and a commitment to fostering a positive and inclusive school culture.
Responsibilities- Develops lesson plans and instructional materials providing effective teaching strategies.
- Maintains effective classroom management, recognises and addresses learning and behaviour issues; understands developmental appropriateness of materials and differentiates instruction to meet the needs of all learners.
- Evaluates accomplishments of students on a regular basis using multiple assessment methods; provides progress and interim reports for feedback.
- Communicates with parents in a timely manner and maintains positive and constructive communication with students, staff, parents and community.
- Protects students, materials and facilities taking necessary and reasonable precautions.
- Upholds and enforces board policy, district goals, administrative procedures and school rules and regulations.
- Adheres to health and safety policies.
- Maintains appropriate work habits, including regular and punctual attendance and appropriate use of conference and planning time.
- Keeps current in subject matter knowledge and learning theory; attends workshops, PLCs and staff‑development sessions as required.
- Respects the confidentiality of records and information regarding students, parents and teachers in accordance with professional ethics and state and federal laws.
- Shares responsibility during the school day for the supervision of students in areas of the school.
- Performs non‑instructional duties as assigned.
- Standard I:
Teachers Demonstrate Leadership - Lead in classrooms, the teaching profession, and the school community.
- Advocate for schools and students and maintain high ethical standards.
- Standard II:
Teachers Establish a Respectful Environment for a Diverse Population of Students - Create an environment in which each child enjoys a positive, nurturing relationship with caring adults and is respectful, supportive, inclusive, and flexible.
- Embrace diversity, treat students as individuals, adapt instruction for students with special needs, and collaborate with families and adults in students’ lives.
- Standard III:
Teachers Know the Content They Teach - Align instruction with the North Carolina Standard Course of Study and maintain knowledge of content appropriate to the teaching specialty.
- Recognise the interconnectedness of content areas and make instruction relevant to students.
- Standard IV:
Teachers Facilitate Learning for Their Students - Know the ways learning occurs and appropriate developmental levels; plan instruction accordingly; use varied instructional methods, integrate technology, and develop critical‑thinking, problem‑solving, teamwork, and leadership skills.
- Communicate effectively and assess learning through multiple methods.
- Standard V:
Teachers Reflect on Their Practice - Analyse student learning, link professional growth to goals, and function effectively in a dynamic environment.
- Must hold a current North Carolina Teaching licence or be eligible for one.
- Demonstrate the ability to perform each essential function of the job proficiently.
- Provide reasonable accommodations for disabilities.
- Bachelor’s Degree from an approved education programme in the subject area (alternate requirements may apply for vocational or technical fields).
- Strong background and understanding of the North Carolina Standard Course of Study and Essential Standards.
- Occasional exertion of up to ten pounds of force.
- Regular speaking, hearing and hand use; frequent sitting, standing, walking, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, pushing, pulling and lifting.
- Standard visual acuity required.
- Vocal communication required for exchanging ideas.
- Income and hearing required at normal spoken‑word levels.
- Prepare and analyse written or computer data; operate machines and motor vehicles and observe surroundings.
- Occasional exposure to outdoor weather; generally moderate noise.
