Contract: Teacher Contract, 10 months, full-time, benefit-eligible

Salary: State Salary Schedule for Teachers (plus local supplement)

Reports To: Principal

FLSA Status: Exempt

We are seeking a passionate, student-centered Middle School Teacher to join our academic team. The ideal candidate will create an engaging learning environment that supports students’ intellectual, social, and emotional development in grades 6–8. This role requires strong classroom management skills, subject matter expertise, and a commitment to fostering a positive and inclusive school culture.

• Develop lesson plans and instructional materials providing effective teaching strategies.
• Maintain effective classroom management, recognize and address learning and behavior issues, and differentiate instruction to meet the needs of all learners.
• Evaluate accomplishments of students on a regular basis using multiple assessment methods; provide progress and interim reports for feedback.
• Communicate with parents in a timely manner; maintain positive and constructive communication with students, staff, parents, and community.
• Protect students, materials, and facilities, taking necessary and reasonable precautions.
• Uphold and enforce board policy, district goals, administrative procedures, and school rules and regulations.
• Adhere to health and safety policies.
• Maintain appropriate work habits, including regular and punctual attendance and appropriate use of conference and planning time.
• Keep current in subject matter knowledge and learning theory; attend workshops, PLCs and staff development sessions as required.
• Respect confidentiality of records and information regarding students, parents and teachers in accordance with professional ethics and state and federal laws.
• Share responsibility during the school day for the supervision of students in areas of the school.
• Perform non‑instructional duties as assigned.

• Hold or be eligible for a North Carolina teaching license.
• Demonstrate strong classroom management skills.
• Possess subject matter expertise for middle school grades (content knowledge).
• Show commitment to fostering a positive and inclusive school culture.
• Ability to perform each essential function proficiently.

• Bachelor’s Degree from an approved education program in the subject area (preferred). Vocational/Career and Technical areas have other requirements.
• Strong background and understanding of the North Carolina Standard Course of Study and Essential Standards.

• Occasional exertion of up to 10 pounds of force.
• Speak or hear, use hands to finger, handle or feel, and repetitive motions.
• Frequently sit and occasionally stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; reach with hands and arms, push or pull and lift.
• Standard vision requirements.
• Vocal communication required.
• Exposure to outdoor weather conditions occasionally.
• Work generally in a moderately noisy location.
